Of course not the best book I’ve ever read. But actually probably my favorite.

Un livre écrit à la va-vite, bourré d'idées géniales et de phrases stupides. Je vais en rester là, merci.

I'll quote my own review that I wrote for the entire series
Book #1-#5 takes us on a roller-coaster ride with Corwin, a prince of Amber.

And I've to say, Book 1 in itself is a roller-coaster ride like none other.
And the best part is, it works as a standalone book too. You do not need to read the entire series to appreciate this one.

I had higher expectations for this book. It wasn't completely bad, however I don't think the writer managed what he intended to create.

Meh - while this is among the literary classics, this will not be kept within my shelves - I am already not a fan of first person narratives, and then to be in the mind of a person who has no idea who people are and why he does what he does - he comes off as an unbelievable hero - and I am not too fond of anyone in the family nor the world no the narrative in and of itself - thankfully this story is short enough that I only had to suffer 24 hours before i could put it down and move on - for those that love this, good on you and those who might be interested, don't stand by what I say because many more seem to enjoy this novel and series - I am moving on to something else at this point though - I cannot invest in anymore of the Chronicles of Amber series

This was undoubtedly the most enjoyable novel I've read in a very long time. Maybe it strikes a cord with me because it's world view is so very close to my own. The pantheistic nature of creation as depicted here is one I've long held to.

The novel itself is well written, even though it's written in the first person, which doesn't often work as well as I'd like but seems to work extremely well here.

All in all a fantastic novel. I can't wait to continue the series now.

Excellent.

An admirable start to what I think is going to be a road to an epic battle. There's definitely some mind-bending things in Nine Princes in Amber and it took me a while to forget my real-word restrictions and just go with the flow. I look forward to the next book, but I have to say, I don't understand the hype and why this book has such a high rating. Are people just rating this series as a whole?

I had problems with the jumps between modern (or at least, 70s) slang and antiquated phrasing, said I. I also didn't likt when the fourth wall was broken and the protagonist was talking directly to us. It really pulled me out of the experience.

I started off excited about this book, and gradually got more and more bored. Shallow characters, shallow encounters. I didn't really care about anyone.
