I enjoyed this book much more as an adult than when I read it as a teen.  I adored Cornelia and Captain Jim.

PBS use to do Anne of Green gables Telethons, and it was always my favorite time of year.
As a child I loved Anne of Green Gables, but for some reason I never read the full series, I always stopped after Anne of Avonlea.

It was fun to revisit the characters and the setting I loved so much as a child

This one opens with Anne's wedding and farewell to Green Gables. I haven't read it since years and years before I or any of my friends were married, so it was sweet to revisit from this older vantage.

This book is the next best thing to a trip to the seaside. Fresh maritime breezes practically flutter out from the pages. Also, one is left wanting pie.

It was just a reread that I took a really long time with so I'm pausing for now.

I really did love this installment in the Anne of Green Gables series, and continue to marvel at how I could not have fallen for these books when I first encountered them decades ago. But now that I’ve fallen under their spell it makes me cranky to keep meeting new (charming) characters in each book, and barely getting a glimpse of the former beloved ones. Anne herself is a bit too traditionally feminine in this book — the ideal wife and prospective mother. And as long as I’m complaining, there is some downright mawkishness at times. Not to mention a completely unbelievable medical miracle as a central plot device. So one star off But I’m still entranced and eager to read the next book. These books cast an inimitable enchantment.

This has been my favorite book since rereading the series. So much happened, and the characters of Four Winds were written so vibrantly. I can picture each as if I’d seen them in a movie. I was especially excited to meet Miss Cornelia Bryant. Some parts of this book were heartbreaking, but it captures the essence of Anne’s romanticism.
