I'm not quite sure how I feel about this book, I gotta say. I have to hand it to the author for really commiting to having both main characters at opposite ends of the political divide, but something didn't sit right and I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it was just a bit unbelievable that two men who were so steadfast in their views could handwave their differing values for the sexual chemistry? It just didn't quite feel that they'd resolved that particular thorn outside the bedroom to me.

But the side cast! They were all delightful and made the decision to finish the book worth it, along with the neat tie-in to real historical events.

That said, I would've preferred a heads-up about the consenual noncon aspect of their dom/sub relationship ahead of time! Getting thrown into the middle of a scene in the first chapter without knowing that threw me a bit.

This book has some quite strong d/s elements and a fair amount of (regency era) politics. This may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is a very interesting perspective and quite different from the first and third books in the series.

I really dislike the covers of the books.

Oh, also spoiler warning:
there is a small section that includes misgendering of a (trans I think) character, which gets resolved in the story.

The resolution of conflict at the end is quite good and it leads well into the third book of the series, which I enjoyed quite a bit!
