I felt that the relationship between the two MCs jumped between the stages at first one they do not want to be connected and then suddenly then they do not want their time together to end. Yes, the part they do not want to any connection to each other is pretty good and also the part where they are together, but it felt to me that there is no gradation between the two stages to make MCs to make love each other as they claim they are.

This fantasy world gripped me from the start! Dex is everything I want in a badass FMC and I loved following her journey. I usually don’t enjoy slow burn romances but my god I enjoyed this one! Need book two now

In Zian Schafer’s second ever release, we are immersed into a totally new realm. We follow Dex as she accidentally ties herself to a male that proudly refers to himself as a “weapon” as he is tied to her as a shadow that only she can see and hear. After confirming she hasn’t succumbed to madness, we follow Dex and her shadow in a quest to free herself from her newly acquired accidental thorn in her side. This tale is rife with gore, banter, an amazing magic system, butterflies, and a toe curling smut scene. I can’t recommend this enough to fans of Glow by Raven Kennedy and Song of the Marked by SM Gaither. I can’t wait for future installments of this series!!!

I finished this book a while ago but just got a chance to write a review. I don’t dislike the book, but I think they were a lot of improvements that can be made. First I think that the pacing of the romance was very off. 50% in and Gideon vows to brutally murder anyone who hurts Dex, which doesn’t make sense. 2 days after he binds to her he’s already protective. We don’t see any reason why they should even like each other. It seems like they’re just falling for each other because they’re all they have, but for Gideon it seems like Stockholm syndrome and Dex should have learnt from falling for the only guy she knows closely, because look what happened with Venison (Vencen).

I think it’s even weirder, how she basically was her foster/adopted brother’s lover?? It’s just incredibly weird and creepy. Additionally, Gideon makes a whole show of hating Venison for being a creep towards Dex but then proceeds to try to watch her undress? He’s incredibly bipolar, very petty, and often child-like. Two days after he was released he growls about not liking how Venison acts but yet can’t act like he has an IQ of over 20. Also, he has a huge ego about being incredibly strong, though I do think it’s just to show how powerless he is now. Also, when Venison is trying to flirt it’s creepy, but Gideon can watch her undress or touch her without actual consent at that time and it’s fine because she likes him? Their relationship has weird double standards.

They travelled for most of the books, and I don’t see a lot of exposition or backstory about the wars. I did enjoy the sun, moon and stars lore however. The romance was forced and turned sexual far too early, and they didn’t have much chemistry. They should have moments (memorable ones) that show growth and the building of MUTUAL trust but all I can remember even though I finished this less than a month ago was the scene where he found out about the poison and her being a lunar elf, and now that I think about it, parts of the castle infiltration. Also I think he calls her “little one” more than once which became creepy.

For a book that is meant to be sold for more than 10 dollars at all, grammar and spelling should not be an error but I did see some weirdly worded sentences and spelling errors. Zian, if you are reading this, I would be happy to help you with them!

All in all, this book was compelling enough to finish and I think Dex and Gideon (whyyyyyy is he named that) can make it work. But in order for that to happen, they need to have moments where they take on actual obstacles together. Overall, I look forward to the next book.

Good, but average.

Even though this was started and approached as an enemies to lovers, they literally dropped their hate and fell in love out of NOWHERE.

Literally the guy was planning to kill her in one episode and the next he was completely at her mercy and couldn't live without her.

This would've been a really good enemies to lovers book if there was more development to their relationship.

as i was reading it i was expecting more. they were traveling somewhere 80% of the book.

gideon still didn’t uncover his true identity as “Hadeon - God of Destruction, the Missing God”.

also i was expecting more smut. we only got angst and two spicy scenes.

i didn’t quite get why she got mad at gideon at the end. he didn’t know her identity either, how could he purposefully make fall in love with him bc of the curse?

and the ending…

Talk about slow burn but in the best way. I actually really enjoyed this book. The first 15% was a bit of a struggle to get through with all the details and writing BUT it picked up quickly and I enjoyed the journey and relationships. The world building was there, and I actually quite enjoyed that this book dealt more with just the two MC's. I know that future books will include a lot more characters with there being Gods and Kings. This is the groundwork for a great series!

There’s a lot of mystery left and unsolved. I am curious to see where the series goes and I’ll definitely be reading the rest!

-Close proximity
-Enemy to lover's
-Slow Burn
-Running from past
-Journey Story
