I enjoyed all of Sylvain Neuvel’s previous books so far, but for some reason, this book didn’t really have me as hooked as his other ones. Which is totally fine in my opinion. I still read it, and I might read the upcoming ones as well, simply to give these books a second chance and to get some answers to questions I still have. I don’t think it’s a bad book, it just wasn’t something I personally had that much fun reading. Usually, a book this long takes me 2-3 days, but this somehow took me a week.

I liked that the book had such short chapters and I liked the main idea of the story but for me, it was just kind of hard to read? Hard to keep up with what was happening. It was kind of flat somehow. The idea of the playlist is something I thought was really cool, but it’d have kind of been helpful if there would have been numbers of the years whenever a new chapter starts. Just as orientation. There was a few time skips, in which things happened that one had to somehow puzzle together to understand again. Which was also kinda all over the place sometimes?
The ‘further reading’ section was interesting to read and I am glad I did, knowing a few of these people really existed and there is indeed some truth to the story was honestly nice. Also seeing how much research it takes to write a book (like this) was impressing!
I’m not sure how to fully feel about the book, but I did like the ending, it made me curious to get answers to the questions I still have in mind.

The concept is great, the research is great, but I had a really hard time getting into the flow of the book. I liked the backstories and appreciated the story arch, but I've read these types of stories before, and this novel somehow lacked. Still curious about further development.

Lots of people disliked the dry story telling but I enjoyed it. It did drag a bit here and there but overall, enjoyable and intriguing throughout.

What a lovely audiobook! I feel like that was the best way for me to consume this content, and I wouldn’t have had the same reaction to it in text form.
It was a very intriguing plot line, and managed to hook me, even though I usually hate books centred around the Word Wars. I do wish that I looked for trigger warning ahead of time, and I had to skip a couple chapters in order to get around some content. I am interested to see where the next one goes!

God damn what a cringe ass romance. Who was that narrator and why did she voice a black chick in Russia like some kind of southern belle with a weird accent? Poorly written character, totally a contrived plot device. Almost made me DNF. I just can't get over how bad it was. Howd they even know each other? The girl just shows up one day, knows the main characters name without any reason why, and then asks her to come to an alley. Main character, super smart btw, follows this stranger who randomly knows her name (definitely not working for the tracker trying to murder her btw) and they chill for about 2 minutes before the girl ghosts her. Theyre in love now, basically. So fucking stupid.

Wasn't there a better way to get the character in a position to reaffirm her faith in humanity? This is so lazy and poorly written.
