My Year of Saying No by Maxine Morrey

Meet Lottie a Virtual Personal Assistant, who loves her pj's a little too much but when you work from home does it really matter? After suffering heartbreak in the past her best friend convinces her to a year of saying yes. Yes to new opportunities, yes to new adventures and yes to dates that she'd rather not do.

The story starts at the end of this year with her first 'no' experience. Something which kick starts a year of saying no. The first person she tells is her client Seb via video chat. Over the last few years they have become friends as well as employer/employee. Although there is a complication, Lottie has a little bit of a crush on Seb. Of course, she couldn't, wouldn't do anything about it as he is a client. Her biggest client, in fact, so it would be both personally and financially stupid to pursue this little crush.

Follow Lottie through out the year, as she gets a dog, meets Seb in real life and says no to the things she doesn't want to do (and even some of the things she'd love to do).

Devoured this book in a day, too eager to see what happened next with Lottie and Seb. The chemistry between them leaping off the page. It had me laughing, cringing and crying along with them.

Loved this book!

Thank you to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for my invitation to the tour and to BoldWood Books for my copy of the book in return for a fair and honest review.

Lottie is really looking forward to the new year. After a year in which she had to say yes to everything she is looking forward to doing the complete opposite this year.

Lottie finds it difficult to say no which is why she ended up in the position she was last year, cajouled by her friend Jess.

Lottie has a colleague Seb who has become a friend and he has become her confidante and she finds him attractive but she is nervous about doing anything. She goes to an animal rescue centre and gets herself a little dog and starts to change her life into how she wants it to look.

This is a lovely read and I liked the characters for Seb and Lottie immediately they are both warm and I wanted them to be happy. Also as someone who also finds saying no a struggle it was refreshing to read Lotties experiences and the outcomes.

I enjoyed getting to know them both and finding out more about their lives which have both had their ups and downs. I loved reading about how their friendship develops but I will leave that for you to find out about.

Another great read for these challenging times when we want to escape from day to day life this was a real treat.

Great message. As my pastor has said, saying yes to something is saying no to something else. Finding the right balance for yourself is key.

Lottie has decided to have a year of saying no, after an eventful year of saying yes to pretty much everything. Seb, her biggest client, is also her biggest supporter. They only communicate online, and have never talked face-to-face. Their first in-person meeting was a bit akward, but also great at the same time.

Oh Lottie. (Shaking my head here.) I felt like either banging my head against the table or slapping her. She was extremely frustrating at times. This story was a great example of people assuming they know the other person’s intentions instead of asking or taking a chance. It’s been a while since I have felt to frustrated by any character. And, oh dear me, the amount of apologizing going on between them was off the charts.

But Seb and Lottie had a great rapport and obviously enjoyed each other a great deal. And despite some misunderstandings, they always managed to save their friendship. I really liked the idea of the two of them together.

I loved Lottie’s idea of saying no. Saying no to guilty feelings, saying no to letting people get to you, saying no to things that make you unhappy. Definitely something worth trying.

The ending was sweet. Obviously the ease that they already had with each other helped them to let go of their reservations and finally talk to each other.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC to review. Any thoughts and opinions are my own.

This isn’t usually a book I would pick up but it was on offer and I also really liked the title!

It was ok but I just didn’t love it and I didn’t feel any connection to the characters.

One quote however really stuck out for me…

“We spend all this time rushing around, saying yes to things we don’t really want to, then feeling upset and annoyed that there’s no time left for us to do the things we actually want to.”

Thanks to Boldwood Books for the ARC!
I took longer than I expected to finish this one.
It's a sweet story, but it can also be frustrating sometimes.
Recommended to slow-burn romance fans.

Solid 2.75 stars. I was expecting much much more given the back story but I don't feel like it got there. Still a sweet read, but I found Lottie fickle and Seb a bit dry.

Nice narration, but characters went from being put on a pedestal and being brave to being scumbags, back to a pedestal.
The hot and cold approach to ask each other out wasn’t lovely, it ended up being annoying
