So I'm a little behind on this fad, but someone told my Dad that not reading these books now would be like not reading Jane Austen if you lived during her lifetime, so ...

I've seen the movies, so I'm not coming into the stories totally blind, but I am impressed by Rowling's creativity and her ability to paint a picture with words. I'm looking forward to volumes 2-7!

I had never read the series as a child but grew up loving the movies. I felt like a fraud of sorts so I started to listen to them as audiobooks via Libby. Just as, if not more, wonderful and magical as I remember the movies being as a kid.

I'm probably too old to be starting these, but I'm curious about the later books, as I've heard they're more intense and no doubt Rowling's writing and characters get even better, so I will likely pick up the next one eventually. This first one, though . . . I might well have loved it in fourth grade, but there were a lot of little things that rubbed me the wrong way as an adult whose tastes, no doubt, become ever more strictly defined with each passing year. I suspect as Rowling and her writing mature with each book, I'll start liking the series more and more. The movie will be more than adequate if I ever feel like revisiting this first story, though.

Fantastical novel with elementary writing—perfect for the young reader who will soon grow up with these books.

A feel good teenage read. Something I would have picked out when I was starting my secondary school but I didn’t have money back then. And fictional books cost heaps of money back when I was younger and I prioritized food more than books.

Didn’t want to ask from my parents to get me these. Now that I’m an adult, I’m splurging in all the books that I have always wanted.

Anyway.

Yes, I watched the movies before reading this but how can you blame me? It was so hyped up when I was younger, you’d watch the movie first too if it costs you 1/4 of the price of the books.

The read was easy and I felt every inch of giddiness in Harry when he first entered Hogwarts. Basically being an alien in a world that he had no idea existed for 11 years, everything seems to amaze him. I was amazed too (recalling the first time I saw the movie and everything was so animated).

A solid 5/5.
