just as good as the first one in a completely different way!
age rating — 14+

thoughts while reading

p5: yeah no kidding
p15: i wondered that! i knew there was
no rosemary
in We Were Liars
p21: this family physically hurts me with all their emotional masking
p22: please don’t get addicted
p23: there is literally no pleasing harris
p25: yuhuh what did i say. 16 is way too young to have no one watching you
p50: it’s probably meant to be because of the codeine that
she sees rose
p55: carrie and cadence are kindred spirits, and not completely in a good way
p67: pfeff is totally the one she crushes on
p79: two single guys, three and a half single girls. i can almost taste the potential drama
p92: $100 BOOK VOUCHER?? heck yes!!
p151: don’t tell me
she’s hallucinating the boys too
p163: isn’t this the story about locke from The Cruel Prince
p169: i knew something like this would happen
p175: erm not quite the twist i was expecting

p179: gosh bess is brave, i’d be too terrified to talk to my sibling like that if they had carrie’s issues in case they spiralled and offed themselves. maybe it’s because she’s the youngest so she doesn’t quite understand the seriousness of this situation beyond her own feelings. i’m not saying bess is wrong to say something, i just couldn’t do it
p196: pfeff was never gonna give you what you need, not when he either has a very low opinion of himself or just doesn’t care
p201: really REALLY not what i was expecting
p206: omg it’s agggtm all over again
p220: OH
p247: nooo not
pfeff haunting her now too!
p263:
IT WAS CARRIE WHO KILLED HIM???
p273:
it was HARRIS who moved the board!

“It’s better, I think, to move on. To look forward.”
“But—”
“We can’t change what’s in the newspaper, so why obsess about it? And we can’t change the past, so why dwell on it?”

- Tipper

Penny is so aaaahhy. I hate her.
Why does the author always needs to do this to me 😭
I know it's done on purpose, but damn how much I hate them all.
I'm quoting: ‘Don’t kiss your sister’s boyfriend, because if you do, you’re a goddamned asshole.’
And Bess is an asshole too for being on Penny's side and not on Caroline's.

Once again lovely writing style. Used to have mixed feelings about it in the first book, but now that it's already my second one, so I got used to it. And the whole metaphors with the grief and other emotions is (just like I said in the first book) very cool.

Am I the only one who noticed that Pfeff was 18 and our protagonist, Carrie was only 17. I'm not sure how to feel about this 😀
Also the dude is such a 'weenie' just like someone else said it in the book.
Their whole relationship is just eh.
I thought this toxic relationship is a one-time thing, does this author always writes about such stuff?? 🥲

I forgot to check the content warning. First time since a while and guess what? I got triggered. Please everyone don't be like me, read the content warnings for this book.

Since my rating is based on enjoyment I would give it 2 stars due to it triggering me, but the story was interesting nevertheless and I think it deserves at least 3.

lollllll this book was bad. but it’s ok bc it was entertaining enough and i will say i did not expect that twist at the end. so there’s that! but yeesh it was lacking in subtlety… it felt like it was whacking me over the head with a board (so to speak) of the points it was trying to make about money and privilege and race and all that. like… oof. lowkey the woke mob got to this one. but not terrible bc hey i was entertained

Gutes, spannendes Buch.

I can‘t quite put my finger on it 🤔.
