Eh. 2.5. I wish this had more octopus and less Montgomery et. al. It just touched on the surface of the biology and "consciousness" of octopuses, which was interesting and I did learn from, but this was much more memior and less science than I had hoped and had expected based on the back cover and title.

I loved this book! It had a really immersive writing style, and I especially loved the way that Montgomery described the underwater scenes and animals. I felt like I just flew through it, which is really rare in a nonfiction book for me!

The author does a great job of keeping you engaged with the beautiful connections she makes with the octopuses and the people that care and are fascinated by them.

Absolutely fascinating and compelling throughout, like the strong prehensile suckers of Octopodes, I couldn't be torn away from this book. Montgomery does an incredible job rendering her subject matter surprisingly human, and the stories she tells of connection between octopus and human, and importantly, among those who study and care for the cephalopods was brilliantly executed.

Recommended, regardless of whether you have previous interest in the subject!
