Brooding, revenge filled alpha male. A woman who knows what she wants. Fun escapade but Bourne is a little too committed to his one dimensionality. Still, it's an entertaining ditty and I did want Lady Penelope to get her due.

Fluffy fun. I like Sarah MacLean's romance - it's well-written and escapist without being too over the top.

I'm pretty sure that I missed something while reading. Some subtext. Or maybe I just didn't understand straight up text.
I don't understand how we went from Michael being a rude dirtbag to Penelope starting to like/love him despite every shitty thing he did. Like I'd understand if she got resentful, and started disliking based on what I understood to be happening in the story. He acted threatening, used intimacy against her then turned around and acted cold, he left her alone immediately after entering his house, he kept dismissing what she wanted to do with her life, and generally didn't listen to her. Yes, he did do a few kind of nice things for her (the ice skating specifically), but based on previous behaviour I wouldn't trust that bit of kindness... unless we look at it through the lense of Michael being abusive and kind of love bombing Penelope.
So yeah, I'm absolutely not understanding how we got from point A to point B, when the only improvement that I saw was right at the end of the book.

What a fun Regency, it features a scoundrel who learns that love is more important than revenge and the 'warrior' wife who teaches him that lesson by example.
This is something of a 2nd chances romance. Michael (Lord Bourne) and Lady Penelope were best friends as children. We met Lady Penelope briefly as she was the Duke of Leighton's short-term fiancee in 'Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart.' It's lovely to see her HEA.
Cover: Sumptuous.
Narrator: Rosalind Landor is the perfect Regency narrator.
Hogwarts Sorting Hat: This one is easy! Bourne is a Slytherin (similar to Draco Malfoy, Slytherin on the outside but with a good heart) and Penelope is the very best kind of Gryffindor.
