Jordan and Owen have been friends since they were young. In [b:Superhero|53291764|Superhero|Eli Easton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1588113774l/53291764._SY75_.jpg|25598041] we get to see their friendship grow throughout the years.

Owen is an extremely talented wrestler, and he comes from a family of wrestlers. He's seemingly the archetype of the popular jock. However, this isn't the case. Owen is so kind and protective. He writes for the comic he and Jordan created. His feelings for Jordy are also more intense than he lets people see at first.

Jordan is an artist, he draws the comic that he and his best friend made. He's gay and Owen is totally supportive of him, unfortunately Jordan is also in love with Owen. He doesn't realise that Owen also returns his feelings.

This novella was super sweet. Owen and Jordan were great together.

This was such a beautiful sweet YA about two besties who finally get together their senior year.

Jordan is a cartoon artist who dreams of two things: working for DC comics and being with Owen. Owen is a star wrestler, a legacy and the best. He dreams of two things: being the best and staying best friends with Jordan. Only snag, he’s attracted to Jordan in more than friendship, but is too afraid to openly be with him. In the end, he chooses Jordan and it’s amazing.

I adored this quick and wonderful little read.

Don’t get me wrong - I loved these two dorks and their story.
BUT.
Am I the only one who thinks Jordan still should have taken on the amazing opportunity to study in New York?

'Say yes, Jordan,' he said, shifting closer.
'No,' I said.
Owen smiled. 'Close enough.'
And then he kissed me.

I loved the stuffing out of this novella. It made me laugh and cry and swoon like a teenage girl at a Beatles concert. My only - very slight - criticism is that although I know Owen was a mature, thoughtful character by nature, I did occasionally find his dialogue and actions to be a little too mature for his age in the last third of the story - we can't forget that these boys were just 18. Other than that, Superhero was pure, smuffy perfection.

This one's going directly onto my very selective "favourites" shelf. <3

Thanks for the rec, Amy! You can pick a book for me any time, friend. :)

Sweet, best-friends-to-lovers, high school story. Jordy (arty nerd) and Owen (wrestling jock) are best friends, then experiment. Jordy knows he’s always been in love with Owen since Year 2. Owen is adamant, despite experimenting & loving it, that he is just friends with Jordy. Jordy decides he needs to try other guys, and goes to a gay club, and is rescued by Owen from a potential sexual assault. He then tells Owen he can’t be around him anymore, and needs to move away to purge Owen. Scarily, heart-wrenchingly familiar. But HEA!

4.5⭐️ Adorable coming-of-age, best friends to lovers novella with humor, angst, and great spice. I’m a huge sucker for young love/first love stories and this one didn’t disappoint. Eli Easton is quickly becoming a favorite for me.

I am loving Eli Easton's books.

Sweet, and delightful story. I adore Owen and Jordan. I loved how Owen and Jordan mesh, how protective Owen was of Jordan. Their friendship and gradual love was the best kind. It gave you a great feeling of goodness.

More details to come...Until then I recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading more of Eli Easton's books. Her stories sweet and beautiful.

Jordan Carson met Owen Nelson in the second grade. Ever since, the two have been inseparable. There's always been something about Owen that held Jordan's fascination. And as they grew older, Jordan learned exactly what that was. Jordan's gay and Owen is the object of his affection. There's a few problems with that, though. For one, Owen is straight. He's also a jock, the star of the wrestling team. And they live in a small town in Wisconsin. It's not the most open or accepting sort of community.

Although Owen doesn't seem bothered by the fact that Jordan is gay, there's still a strain on their friendship. Jordan wants more from Owen, even though he knows Owen can't give it to him. The heart wants what the heart wants. And sometimes even when one knows something in their head, the heart won't listen. So while Jordan is happy that he won't lose his best friend by coming out, it's a bittersweet happiness. Because he's just not sure he can stay close to Owen while knowing they can never be more than friends.

As someone who grew up in a small midwestern town, there are many elements of this story that rang true for me. The author has done a great job of capturing the environment where this all takes place. And that adds a real richness to the story. And the characters are great. It's not hard to like and empathize with both Jordan and Owen. Owen comes across a bit larger than life at times, but that's coming from Jordan's perspective. Knowing how Jordan feels, it makes perfect sense in the context of the story.

There are some expected twists here just by the nature of the story. And there are some unexpected twists as well. But it is a rather enjoyable one to read.

I've given this a young adult label because of the ages of the characters and the issues they face. I should note that there is some sexual content, just to be clear and upfront.
