Good points: The plot and romance were good. I like the way the psychic abilities were used and their consistency and relevance to the story. The tone was fun and exciting.

Bad points: The naming conventions ("coff-tea", "jelly-ice", "cherry-berry", "pear-berry", "shark-cuda") were incredibly annoying. This is a common problem of inexperienced scifi writers, who want everything to seem extra space-y. Likewise, there was a lot of naming of different historical periods for furniture design that had nothing to do with the story and was unnatural (it is unlikely that anyone would name the historical period of a piece of furniture every time it appears: "she walked to the Early Exploration Period desk", when there is only one desk in the room). The author also explained several times concepts that were previously introduced.

Take-away: The book was worth reading, but only if you are willing to overlook some things.

This is the second book in the series. This was one I had a hard time connecting too. I usually love her books.

Second in a trilogy.

I found this review of the book on some book site:

In a far-off world where lifelong marriages are arranged by coupling agencies, Nick Chastain and Zinnia Spring are deemed incompatible. But with the help of their undying love, the couple fights against the laws of society to be together.

and found it to be somewhat misleading.

Zinnia and Nick aren't deemed incompatible towards each other, merely unmatchable by the agency. They come upon each other on their own, she a high level prism, he an off the chart matrix, and so naturally destiny pushes them together. There is also the mystery of the expedition journal and who is behind the race to keep it out of Nick's hands. I enjoyed this book and wouldn't hesitate to pick up another one of her futuristic romances.

I found this to be slow paced, until the end. Took me forever to get through it.

This was an interesting re-read. Ilona Andrews owes a lot to Jayne Castle’s series. I see a lot of similarities between this world and the Hidden Legacy series. While this is sci-fi romance, and Andrews’ is fantasy/magic, this feels like a 2000-era precursor to that series.

This one was fun! Nick is trying to go legit, and he's in the marriage market for a respectable bride, from a prominent family. Poor Hobart Bat finds himself with a major gambling debt, which he can clear by finding Nick his bride. I absolutely adore this match-making man.

Zinnia has her own scandalous past, but she's working very hard to re-establish herself in the interior design market, while doing focus work on the side.

They accidently meet up on the psychic plane, and Nick realizes he needs her. She's freaked out by the psychic vampire she encountered. When she barrages her way into his office to confront him on her missing client, he realizes she's the one he needs. Let the investigation/wooing begin!

This as a fun one. Zinnia is pretty amazing. She takes NO crap from anyone. She holds her head high, and embraces Red as her signature color. Nick is an off the charts Matrix talent, searching for his father's missing journal. Zinnia's client is tied to the missing journal, so they team up to find her client & his journal.
