There's a lot of needless "why thank you sir" lines of dialogue that become nauseating. The protagonist is extremely naive and sheltered despite being a soldier on D-Day which is completely unbelievable. The protagonist reminds me of the Godling protagonist in his incredible innocence and "Boy Scout" attitude. Still, the author is getting a little better and the plot advances at a decent pace.

While the first few pages didn't grab me, it got real interesting real quick, I could barely put it down.. even though I'm travelling the States,

I'm not especially a fan of portal books, and I'm just over saturated on world war stories.

So me enjoying this as much as I did is a big recommendation in itself!

It had the classical fantasy feeling to it that I sometimes miss in modern books. I clicked with the characters early on and I loved exploring the new word!

I was expecting a bit more dragons from the cover and blurb, buy I'm fully expecting more in the sequels.

There were a few scenes that had me a bit miffed (a lady encased in some sort of crystal, that people are staring at, and one jealous girl keeps covering her up, that whole bit felt creepy and *ewww* to me) but it was not so big a part of the book. So I'll go with 4*

This was a miss for me. I just couldn't get invested int he protagonist's struggle. Your mileage may vary.

SloW build

I thought it was a slow build until I couldn't put it down. I like the characters and setting building.

Not my favourite fantasy book.
This book had potential, but in the end it felt like a knock off version of Eragon. It just never managed to deliver what it promised. A lot of things reminded me of books that I love (such as Eragon), but it always fell a little short.
I was really looking forwards to reading about a human from our world getting dropped into a fantasy world with dragons, elves and magic, but he might as well have been a regular farm boy, because there were hardly any references to the life he used to live, and no jokes or funny comparisons.
Like I said, it had potential, and at times it was entertaining enough, but I kept waiting for it to bring me something more. There were also some scenes that made me a bit uneasy, where a 13 yearold child was in love with the adult main character (all be it he was just barely an adult himself), and though nothing happened between them yet, there was something about the situation that just felt wrong to me. All in all, I didn’t like how the one (and only except for a few brief appearances from other females) female character was portrayed. Here again, I was expecting more, and there was potential for a great character, but it just falls flat.
I hope the rest of the series is better, and that it lives up to its potential, but I doubt I’ll be reading it.

Mediocre and predictable story with very basic characters who can't keep up with their own personality set.

I was baited in by the premise: WWII Airborne soldier gets transported to a world with dragons. Sounds fun! But alas. I've been spoiled by better books about soldiers and dragons. The characters had such potential only to fall flat. Kat especially. She started out a badass and transitioned to a love-struck juvenile. The author eludes to richer, fuller backstories for some of the characters, and maybe those stories eventually get told in subsequent volumes. I'm not hooked enough to bother to find out though. 2.5 stars, rounded to 3 because the narrator was fantastic.
