I really enjoyed this book! I know the show has a cult following, which honestly made me nervous to read it. That being said, I thought the plot was unique (for when it was written), I enjoyed the character-building, and the attention to detail was impressive. I thought the
use of sexual coercion and attack wasn’t always needed

I am tempted to not read any more though and leave
Claire and Jamie in a happy bubble into midnight

I can see why this is a highly rated book, it’s beautifully written and descriptive. However, to much sex for my liking. That’s just me. I’m not a fan of spicy romances.

This is now one of my favourite books! It is up there with the bronze horseman and pillars of the earth. Addictive, imaginative and cultural it had everything a book needs for me to immerse myself completely. I wish I had read this sooner! I am always a little dubious of books in a series but already a couple of chapters into book 2 and I am hooked!

Just didn't grab my attention. It sat over a year waiting to be finished. Finally giving up because life is too short.

For the first time ever, I think a screen adaptation may turn out better than the novel. It started off great, but somewhere in the middle I lost interest and found other things more interesting to do than reading. A sure sign for me that it isn't that great. I persevered and I was really annoyed by the punishment part. She forgave him much too easily in my opinion. I also hate it when authors need to abuse their main characters. In this case the male, which was different, but I still found it unnecessary.
I will be interested to see how they cover that part in the tv series, because if they remove it, they will actually make it better. It finished in a way that makes me sort of want to continue the series. I may give it a go, and see whether the story line develops into something worth reading.

When I returned home back in December THIS was the book everyone seemed to be talking about....and as I NEED a long book to fall into, I eagerly downloaded it. Ho hum. It was not that thrilling. I am not even sure I will bother to read the next in the series.

The story is of a woman from WWII that finds herself transported to 1700s...almost 200 years before. She is taken in (forced to join) a Scottish man and his family. Things happen she finds herself wed to a younger man....lots of violence, lots of horseback riding....lots of evil English.

I did not appreciated some of the scenes...and I did not love the end....in fact, I found it rushed, but I was eager for the book to end.

Read if...you enjoy really long books...historical, long books...historical long books that make you want to quit reading.
