Serena Akeroyd writes so well and this mafia romance is no exception. Seeing this relationship bloom between Finn and Aoife was gorgeous and I will need to read the rest of the books.

I probably should’ve kept reading to see if it actually ends up being like this but
personally not a fan of the blackmail sex concept. It’s a little too triggering for me. Also I love when characters thirst after each other but the way this MMC was doing it felt really slimy and I just wasn’t feeling it.

This would be a 5 star read, if the beginning didn’t blur the lines of consent

This should NOT be your introduction to organized crime romance. You need to find out if you like the genre before you read about a rough and rugged mob man with unlimited resources blackmailing an innocent woman into sex.

We barely knew each other, but I knew enough to know I’d want her. Until I took my last breath, I’d need and want and crave this woman, and there was nothing and no one that would take her from me.

For as tough and demanding as Finn was, he was so gentle, reassuring, and thoughtful with Aoife. They can’t control themselves around each other. Yes, sexually, but it was more than that. Their worlds quickly began to revolve around the other. They began and ended with each other. The love, while complicated, was easy. The world was exploding around them, but it never ripped them apart. They only held each other tighter. My heart ACHED going into part two! And let’s be honest, part two didn’t exactly relieve the ache either. For all the drama, it wasn’t really enough drama, was it? Better security, throwing around money, quick fix. And then BAM! Boy, were we blind sided by the truth of things. I know that there is a “part two” of this coming, but I can’t ignore that such a big chunk of the story is ignored and could have definitely been included. It didn’t necessarily need another book. Or at least, it should have been dealt with in some way. Finn royally screwed up, and we have to wait to see it destroy him and Aoife? And putting it off like that? How very unlike Finn that is. He hands Aoife every dirty detail, no matter what. But now he chooses the one truth that could hurt her? However Aoife reacts to this, he deserves it.

My Favorite Quotes:
•’It was like God had formed a creature that was born to be my downfall.’
•”A man protects his treasure.”
•’Like I’d finally found my home.’
•”I’m so empty, baby.”
•”I don’t intend on losing you now that I’ve found you.”
•”The air I breathe belongs to you.”

Loved this so much! A little longer than I like but Serena is now in my top mafia authors based on this book alone.

I've had this series on my TBR for so long and I had such high hopes for this but it didn't work for me. Aoife was so meek at the start. She signed over her mother's tea shop after months of them trying to get her to move because it happened to be Finn, her childhood friend. She agreed to everything he wanted: agreeing to move, going home with him, sleeping with him. Granted, she had her reasons for accepting that we knew of but in her initial conversations with him, he would ask for something and she'd agree, only telling him her reasoning much later. She only developed her backbone with him later on... and by then it felt like we were dealing with a different character. I liked Finn's character; he was assertive and a problem-solver, and he fell head over heels in love with Aoife and her curvy body.

While the characters may have been interesting at times, nothing really happened. And it was way too long. There was so much unnecessary backstory or memories that didn't need to be included. Almost every single conversation or train of thought had a callback to another time and it made me disconnect from the story often. There were a few incidents that were resolved or handled off page, but there was no buildup to a typical climax. It worked a little too hard at setting up the rest of the series that it didn't give me a good reason to want to continue. The preview at the end may get me to read Eoghan's book, but I'll most likely take some time away from this world.
