Half boring, half real good

The first half was boring, the second part was good. I didn't get a feel for the characters at first, because most of the first half dealt with Warren's desire to take Camilla to bed, and her reluctance to sleep with him. Both had family issues and trust issues, but they're not revealed until later on. I was bored, but forged on because if the book had so many raving reviews, something had to turn good. And it did, approximately half way through. Warren is a hot, successful and rich soccer player. He was very centered around the material things and the women that his career brought to him. Camilla is poor, lives in a derelict building that is about to be condemned. They meet at the neighborhood meeting about the Belmonte plans for the neighborhood, and she speaks out for the group. They feel an instant attraction but she feels the difference in status very keenly and is not impressed with his fame. Warren is the one who does most of the growing up in the book, but Camilla also deals and resolves issues. The last part was a great read, not at all boring. So, great half book!

I received this in one of my subscription book boxes I get (maybe it was Dangerous Book Club?) and after having a great experience with one of Claire Contreras' books last year, I thought I'd give this a try. I mean, we know how I love a sports romance, so combine that with a kickass heroine and a former (well, former once he sees her) playboy soccer star who is determined to win her over... and I was all in. I loved the story, but I thought that it moved a bit slowly at times. While I appreciated knowing how the H and h felt and more of their backstories, I didn't need to know every feeling they had the moment they had it, which is what ultimately cost it a star. The fact that it moved slowly made it easy for me to put it down for weeks at a time, though the story stayed with me and I was never lost when I came back to it. Would I read more by this author? Absolutely.

was conflicted on the rating because it’s not a bad book but it’s not a great one either… 3.5⭐️ rounded up
it was easy to read in one sitting without being distracted but it missed emotions…

Thank you SJ for recommending this book to me. This was an incredible read. It is the first book that I have read by Claire Contreras, and it will not be my last. I thought the story was amazing and it was fun. I thought the characters were fantastic as well. Warren and Camila had such amazing chemistry. I couldn't put the book down because of their passion and love.

Warren was an incredible hero. He was a soccer player/business man. It was interesting to see the real Warren in the book. It was shocking to read his revelation. Camila was a fantastic heroine. She was the sweet girl who works at a non-profit organization and a bartender ocassionally. I really loved the development of her character. The ending was perfect. I am happy that they got their HEA. I can't wait to read more books by this author. Overall, an amazing read.
