Another amazing read!

I really enjoyed "The Whisper Man" and I doubted his second novel could be as good but maybe because I read this one (as opposed to listening to the former) I liked this better. I did miss Christopher Eccleston's voice though.

This book reminded me so much of C.J. Tudor's awesome plot and writing with the events from past and the present, the extremely creepy tales and the children in them. I don't want to give anything away that you don't find in the blurb except that this is both horror/thriller at its finest!

I liked the writing style of this book. It went quickly and is an easy read. This is the story of four high school guys who all have weird or unique personalities and interesting takes on life. Some have issues at home with parents and all definitely deal with bullying in school. One of the young men Charlie believes in dreams that can be shared between people. When you share a dream with someone it becomes reality. He has them logging their dreams in notebooks and they compare the similarities between their dreams. The story continues with murder, a shodowed woods that they live near. Missing people, copycat murders and police trying to figure it out. One boy escapes to college and stays out of the mess, but comes home 25 years later to find his mom somehow involved in the history and on her deathbed. It was very interesting. very weird but thoroughly enjoyable. The ending is fairly predictable but still interesting.

Paul Adams has been haunted by the events of his childhood for his entire life. When he was a teenager, his friends horrifically murdered of one of their fellow classmates and Paul was brought in on suspicion. Although he had nothing to do with it, he can't shake the guilt he feels for not warning someone about the disturbing actions of his friends leading up to the murder. If he had only told someone about Charlie Crabtree and the lucid dreaming. . .

Twenty-five years later, Paul returns to his hometown to say goodbye to his mother before she dies. It's far from a pleasant homecoming however, especially when someone starts tormenting him with the ghosts of his past. Then news of a copycat killer reaches Paul and he can't help but wonder if what's happening to him is connected. After all, they never found one of the killers. They never found Charlie Crabtree.

Alex North has upped his game! Honestly, I think The Shadows might be even better than The Whisper Man. With a series of terrifying twists and turns, The Shadows keeps your eyes reading and your heart pounding.
