The kids really enjoyed this one, so much so that we picked up the 2nd one from the library.

My mom read this to me and my siblings when we were homeschooled. I just had a blast reading it to my fourth graders as we began our study of ancient Rome. They were quickly caught up in the mystery and on the edge of their seats till we reached the end.

I am traveling to Rome and Athens in the next month or so and was intrigued by this little book that I came across at the library book store for uber-cheap (2 for $0.25) when they were closing. I thought it would be a fun read and something I could take with me to wild release there. The mystery aspect was pretty decent, with an actual bad guy and an innocent person who won't tell the whole story and clear himself and some mixed motives all around. Definitely a great way for kids to interact with the world of ancient Rome.

Read this aloud with my kids. It was a quick read and they enjoyed it. It definitely wasn’t m favorite middle grade book, but it was a fun read.

I read this with my homeschooled 6th and 3rd grader, and they gave it 5 stars. It’s a fun story about a group of schoolboys who go on an adventure to uncover a secret that had landed one of the boys in jail. It’s set in ancient Roman times and the author does a great job of describing life and the ranking of citizens in the book during that era. The boys must unravel the mystery before it’s too late - can they do it?! A fun little “whodunnit” for kids!

We really enjoyed this one. My 5 year old had a hard time keeping the characters straight, but my 8 year old really liked it, and she doesn't always love mysteries. We will look forward to reading this again.
