A quick read for Jane Austen, I found this novel refreshing from her usual catalogue, likely because of its place in the gothic genre rather than her typical comedy of manners. It felt warmly relatable to hear Isabella and Catherine obsess over their favorite gothic horror novels, and Catherine's overactive imagination once in Northanger Abbey was delightfully frustrating. I want to be her friend.

I hated it. I feel like a reread of Pride and Prejudice is in order so I remember she is a great writer.

Are we just supposed to skip over the part where the narrator says Henry doesn’t even like her he just knew she liked him?????
really mediocre love story and dragged on quite a lot. Hope her other books are bit more interesting. Well written tho!

Jane Austen is so hilarious!!
I'm not giving it five stars because the gothic parody part was a bit boring to me and the ending didn't leave such a mark because it was told and not shown, but overall I adore Austen and her witty, brilliant mind.
