Just One of the Groomsmen by Cindi Madsen is the first in the Getting Hitched in Dixie series. I did not know this was a series until a few minutes ago and am so excited to find out this news, it has the perfect characters to keep the stories going. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, reading about Addie and Tucker's love story was sweet and kept me interested from beginning to end. I am so excited that since it is a series, their story will continue as a thread in the next couple of books. I love reading stories that take place in the south. I grew up with a mom born there and the sayings feel like home. This book is not deep fiction, but it is entertaining and a super fun read that I would definitely recommend. Thank you to Entangled Amara and NetGalley for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the characters but felt the story moved too slowly. While I did enjoy the book, I didn't love it as much as I hoped I would. I don't mind slow burns, but I think I would have liked this a lot better if the romance moved faster. I would describe Just One of the Groomsmen as lighthearted chic-lit. I found it easy to read and well written, but not as memorable as I'd hoped.

I loved this story as not only was it about two best friends taking that chance and becoming so much more. But it was about a girl, who for most of her life has just been one of the guys. Who drinks, beer, plays football, and is more at home in sweatshirts and yoga pants than dresses. Yet, she still wants to be acknowledged as a girl and that made me so emotional, as it really was heartfelt and honest. As well as being super fun, charming, sweet, entertaining, engaging and enjoyable to read. And I would happily recommend it to others.

This was a super adorable friends to lovers romance story. From the very first interaction, I knew I was going to enjoy it. I wasn’t wrong.

Addie reminded me so much of myself. A total tomboy...from the way she dressed to her love of sports. I could identify with her 100%. I mean, hell, even some of how her family acted was similar to my own. While not a necessity for me to enjoy a book, in this case, it only added to it.

But she and Tucker were so perfect for each other. It was obvious from the beginning. While the entire group of friends were close, they had a special, closer bond that shone through. I was rooting for them before they realized it themselves.

I have to say though I loved the romance element, the actual plot was fun and adorable too! I loved all the characters (especially Nonna) in the town. I loved Lexie. I loved the wedding planning. The secrecy. The puppy. And yes, there are cliches present, but I didn’t even mind them in this case.

And oh em gee. What an adorable ending! The rehearsal dinner scene was just the culmination of everything we’d learned about these characters. So damn cute!! Love, love, love.

My one complaint was the characters’ repetitive thoughts over not ruining a friendship. It was constant and mentioned enough for me to roll my eyes at times. (Probably our of frustration for their stubbornness.)

Such a fun, humorous contemporary. I have no idea if there are plans for books about the rest of the guys in the group, but I’d totally be there for them!

The female MC's entire personality is her NoT bEiNg LiKe OtHeR gIrLs, she’s not girly enough and she acts like a guy and she hates when people act towards her like she is a girl, at some point she says that she never wears girly clothes because of wardrobe malfunctions, but you can totally wear pretty clothes that are comfortable and don’t have any risk of wardrobe malfunction

The writing style is really weird and confusing it’s written in the 3rd person perspective yet we see both of their POVs. For exemple, in one chapter we see what his thoughts are but we only see what she says without knowing what are her inner thoughts. Now, that wouldn’t be a problem if it was like this throughout the entire book, all the books that are written from the 3rd person perspective are written like that. The difference here is that the next chapter we see what are her thoughts and we only see what he says without seeing what he thinks, so it’s a mix of double POVs but written from a 3rd person perspective, it’s kind of confusing. Another thing that is super weird is that the book refers to their parents as “mom” and “dad”, the thing is that sometimes there is a line that goes like “blah blah blah, mom said” or “dad sat down” it makes sense to write it like that when the book is written in a 1st person perspective but it’s written in the 3rd person and it just says “mom/dad said” instead of “her/his mom/dad said” it’s as if their first names are literally “mom” or “dad”.

Events in book weren't written gradually enough, for exemple at some point
Spoiler Addie and Tucker have a fight in quite the beginning of the book that escalated really quickly for no reason, one moment they were laughing, the next she was super angry at him and he didn't really say anything that would warrant such a strong reaction from her.

Their attraction was based on nothing,
Spoiler their entire life they weren't attracted to each other and then one day suddenly they are, and there is sexual tension between them. All he did was see her legs and thought they were sexy but it’s still weird that he would suddenly be super attracted to her after they’ve known each other their entire lives just because he saw her legs, which he saw plenty of times throughout their lives. And when it comes to her, the attraction was really sudden, it’s not like he did something that, for some reason turned her on or something, she just suddenly began being attracted to him after years. It would have been better to see the way they saw each other evolve gradually and not suddenly just like that for the plot, it doesn’t seem very realistic.

So fun! So entertaining! So sweet! Loved this! Addie and Tucker were awesome. I love friends to lovers’ stories and this one was excellent.

I adored Addie. She had such a great attitude and big heart. She was totally comfortable in her own skin, I loved that about her. Tucker was wonderful. So sweet and totally caught off guard by his attraction to one of his best friends. I loved learning about them and their histories growing up. It was so fun! I loved the build to their growing feelings, the looks and smiles and their simmering chemistry. They had such great banter and fun dialogue. I understood Addie and Tucker’s dilemma and why they were holding back. They both could be stubborn so there was tension as well as a lot of emotion as everything played out. I was filled with so much anticipation and couldn't wait for them to get together.

There are ups and downs and bits of drama here and there that kept things moving along at a good pace. I really liked all the guys in their group and the different dynamics they all had with each other, they were an entertaining bunch. They shared a lot of good-natured ribbing and fun but I liked how they were all truly there for each other.

This was told from dual, third-person POVs and it was done really well and I thought it had a great flow. I loved the small-town setting which was super entertaining thanks to gossipy neighbors. Those extra characters and their nosy selves had me smiling.

This was just one of those stories that I enjoyed reading; time flew by as I turned page after page. There was good conflict, a lot of sweet and a bit of heat and just the right bit of emotion and I thought it was a well-rounded story. This one was a winner!
