I meant to read one chapter, then accidentally read the entire book in a few hours. Whoops?
Anyway, it's fantastic.
This version's cover art: chef's kiss.
Their descriptions of each other (Payne doing yoga?!): chef's kiss.
Their respective emotional journeys: chef's kiss.
The tattoo coloring: C H E F ' S K I S S.
Usually I hate when writers write about writers; it's like a circle-jerk. But I didn't mind it with Beau, and I don't know if it's because his writing wasn't really the point of the book, or if it's because his brand of writer neuroticism is so close to my own. I also greatly appreciate that no one ever tries to suggest "fixing" Beau, or even suggests a therapist or medication. He just gets to live his life, and Payne's there to support him how he needs. Not that therapy or meds are bad things, but I feel like in so many books, people suggest them to neurodiverse characters as if they're totally unique concepts that the ND character must never have heard of or thought about before. So yeah, good on this author for letting her characters just be on their own terms.

“A nervous sound bubbles up my throat, and I almost trip over my feet as I back up. “Welcome to Casa De Shitraw—” I blanch. “I mean dickraw—ahh, Rickshaw. It’s Rickshaw.”
Still cannot stop laughing about this scene. There are quotes in books that impact you for many reasons. The awe moment, the swoon moment, the fuck no moment, and YES moment, but this moment was so surprisingly perfect. I laughed so hard I cried and even now sheer joy.
To be honest this had been sitting in my KU library for a while because I kept getting distracted by other books because lets face it; I had lots of meet cutes to get through in the CU series, the Puckboys, and the Frat Wars series and I can't deny re-reading Egotistical Puckboys and Masters of Mayhem I don't even want to admit how many times. Then I watched a short AMA Eden Finley & Saxon James did where they talked about the hardest characters to write and I had to move this one up. The reason is, I wanted to see if I could tell. I'm honestly not sure, but I can admit Payne's attraction to Beau didn't jump off the pages. I don't think he was meant to be instantly attracted; I liked the slow burn; I liked the friendship, I liked how they saw each other as more. Even though the slow burn isn't typical when I read Saxon's books the passion/attraction is a character on it's own merit.
I enjoyed Beau so much; his quirks, his inability to control what comes out of his mouth and his openness.
I can't wait to see where their story leads as I continue to get to know the DMC.

I’m not really all that into rereads. But I really wanted to give myself a little refresher before diving into Employing Patience.
It took about 30% for me to get over my reread hump before I fell back into Payne and Bo-Bo. I remembered why I adored this series.
