Anticlimactic. The first part was eerie and had me hooked, second part let it down.

I love Kings short stories. This one had an audiobook the same length as a podcast episode and it was a nice pick for driving around between jobs :)

A surprisingly good short story with a few twists and turns, but with a rather satisfactory end. Stephen King remains the best at this genre. Surprisingly, the book had "teachable moments" and had me re-evaluate my life to some extent.

What make Stephen King's books so awesome is the way he takes the "normal man on the street, ol' Average Joe" and allow us to easily identify with their circumstances. There is none of this rubbish of an ex-marine or special forces hero that stands 6 foot 5 inches and can basically take on an entire army on their own. In this story he takes a simple young college student, Alan Parker, who is informed that his mother has had a stroke. Having to hitchhike to get to her, he has certain encounters along the way that would have major influences on the rest of his life. Unfortunately I can't disclose any more as it would contain spoilers, but the ending left me rather inspired.

Although this is a short story, it is one of my favourites by Stephen King.
