Agota Kristof skapar ett nät av lögner och sanningar som vävs upp och raseras om vartannat, men med en tydlig röd tråd: krig, trauma och det vi gör för att klara av att leva. En mycket stark läsupplevelse.

So I read the first part of the trilogy.
The first half of the book was a bit weird to read. Those children were involved in so many violent and sexual situations. The boys' morals seemed completely inconsistent. I mean from one extreme to the other...
In the latter half of the book I started to like the story and characters more, and I liked the direction the book took. How the boys' family relationships developed, and the scene in the minefield, oh...! The book ended with a real cliffhanger. I am very interested in reading the other parts of the trilogy as well.

This book was stunning, yet so so brutal. Simple in its writing, yet clear and concise in its portrayal of how dehumanising war is. A beautiful book that is touching in its harshness.
