It was just as captivating as the first book. I really enjoyed it.

I mean, it was good, but very repetitive. Alyce and Aurora just go back and forth with “you did this” and “but you did that” and they do it so much I swear they don’t actually want to be together and just like fighting.
The descriptions of the fae were really pretty though.
Oh and freaking Mortina or Morana was always swirling/seething/moving/break dancing in her cave/dwelling/place where she lived. Give it a rest girl.
Spoiler
The fact that Aurora and Alyce weren’t together at the end infuriated me. Like whyyyyy. Just let them be happy for heaven sake.

the journey of the two women is heartbreaking, infuriating, heartfelt and just oh so good. at times i wanted to just scream in frustration, but in the end, it came as it had to. a book should guide you through all emotions and still make you glad and happy you read it. Heather Walter absolutely achieved that. i love both books a lot and will re-read them often and tell others to read them, too.

The ending and beginning is good, but the story is repetitive and boring, the same sequences happen over and over and over so the middle gets really bogged down

I loved the writing style but…
Spoiler The entire time I was rooting for Regan and Alyce to be together, because she’s is obviously the better love interest. It seems that Aurora and Alyce are only together because of the whole True Love™ thing, which feels to me like more of a shackle upon both of them.

And Mortania is dead? Just like that? It seems like Walter just didn’t know what to do with her, and honestly I really didn’t know what her goal is. To manipulate Alyce? Why though, if she can just essentially possess Alyce, as she has done later in the book. Just possess earlier if you could do something like that and assume control.
