This series keeps getting better and better. Ruin is an example for how a finale needs to be set up. Shocking, Brilliant, Intense and Heart-breaking - this one is truly an epic book. It truly was unpredictable with most cases and all that remains is to see how everything comes together in [b:Wrath|27411345|Wrath (The Faithful and the Fallen, #4)|John Gwynne|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1464179284l/27411345._SY75_.jpg|47460126].

Ruin continues the plot from where Valor left off. Now that the God-War is clearly established, the stakes are higher and it seems all the characters realize it. The book is full of love, friendship, tact, deception and betrayal and it kinda gives you a heart-attack when you least expect it. I've had enough F-bombs while reading this one.

While I wont go into the details of the characters and plot, there is one thing worth noting. John Gwynne is a wonderful talent when it comes to writing battle scenes. it is descriptive enough to see it happen infront of your eyes (no kidding) and you only find yourself wanting more. One duel stands out among all the scenes. Its the best one I have read so far!

When I was at 95%, I was very happy man. Then, with just a couple of chapters, John Gwynne managed to stab my heart and left me gasping for air. How can you do this to me!!

Honestly, I'm still so annoyed with how terribly Fidele's storyline was handled that it's kind of ruined my overall feelings for this series, especially since we spent so much time with her and Maquin in this book.

Overall I'm like... the end twist raised this to a 4. It might just be the headspace I'm currently in, but I generally dislike how the author has handled most of the female characters, the reveals felt mostly underwhelming, the conflict between Nathair and Veradis that I was looking forward to felt lacking, the timelines felt weirdly long, and the pacing felt off. Also too many POVs really, goodness.

Hilarious that this was the Battle of the Bastards before the Battle of the Bastards.

Did not disappoint me at all after the first book. I never feel like the story is just slogging along; there's always a purpose. I start liking characters more as they develop.
