I always hate being one of the few who didn't love a book, but here we are. Honestly, I was pretty bored with around the first 70% or so. It was really hard for me to get into this story then because nothing was happening. But the end part was much better and had me wanting to keep going. I disliked the very end though, which is why I didn't round up.

Angelika has always been the powerless sister that is protected. But she wants, more than anything, to be useful in this war. It doesn't matter in what way, just that she knows she can help somewhere. And that's what we get for the majority of this book...her trying to figure out a way to be a part of this war. Each way, seemingly revolving around being with Airk.

These two were already attracted to each other, but the more time they spend together the more they want to be with each other. Which wouldn't be a problem except that Airk doesn't believe he deserves Angelika and he's also terrified that the feral dragon inside of him will hurt her. After so much back and forth with Airk, Angelika has decided that she needs to move on. After all, he so obviously won't claim her and she has already been offered a mating by another powerful man that would be a great ally. It'll take a vision from her sister to finally get these two together.

While these two are working on finding allies in the white clan, the rest of Angelika's sisters and their kings are also trying to figure out a way to win still. Unfortunately, Pytheios has so many upper hands that they are on the verge of losing everything. And time is definitely up for them all.

When Pytheios descends upon the mountain where all the allies have holed up, we get our big final battle against the (no longer) rotting king and his army. And it was a good one. Many people get what they deserve, and we even get a couple more hell hounds. Which was cool, but would have been cooler if they had done more. When Pytheios attacks Angelika, Airk is devastated. But that dragon should have known what happens with phoenix and ashes. Thanks to Angelika's new power, Airk is able to take on Pytheios one on one. Obviously he wins. I could have done without Pytheios's big about face after he learns of a truth, but it is what it is. And I also did not like what happened with all the sisters. I get it, I really do, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. But now the dragons can start rebuilding their society.

The epilogue took place many months later and we learn a little about the changes that have already been made. We get Airk's corronation and hear how all of the kings plan to rule from now on. Which makes what they do at the very end make no sense
SpoilerSo they're going to do away with the high king and instead have each clan's king meet in a council to decide everything for their people. Okay, that's cool. But then they go and proclaim Angelika as the high queen? And basically say she has the most power and will have her own council? Um...what? And more importantly, WHY? You just said it was going to be the king's council that will rule them. But now you're saying it's Angelika?
.

As the final book for two series, I was okay with it. I just wish I had loved it as much as most everyone else has so far.

Airk and Angelika's story was so steamy and with a great plot. The world-building of the series is one I really liked. I am loving the characters in the series. There is so much going on within each book that will capture you from the start. I so wished to hear them on audio someday. I love dragon shifter stories and this series is one I would totally recommend.

Wonderful conclusion to the Inferno Rising series!

The Cursed King is Angelika and Airk's story and I just love them. They share a common bond of feeling useless because their powers are dormant but their similarities, for the most part, end there. This book is fantasy, action, and drama but also grumpy/sunshine, back and forth romance. I love a good fantasy story but sometimes, I find the romance can get lost in the explanation of the world. In The Cursed King, the romance and spice is woven perfectly throughout so Angelika and Airk's relationship and the story develop at the same time.

The love between mates in this series is seriously swoon-worthy and Angelika and Airk are no exception!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

You have to read this whole series to really appreciate this book. We get a few chapters from the POV of the other kings and phoenixes. I'm sad to see the series come to an end but the conclusion was satisfying.
Did anyone else find Airk particularly stubborn?

Airk Azdajah, the rightful King of the White Clan, spent most of his life imprisoned and tortured by the false High King. The only reason he is still alive is the curse that says that the man who kills him will be consumed by his own fire. Unable to shift all those years has left his dragon feral and Airk feeling unworthy of taking his rightful place.

Angelika Amon is the last unmated phoenix. But she has no powers. With her sisters mated to powerful kings and able to join in the fight, Angelika hates being unable to take down the man who killed her parents.

She offers herself as a mate to Airk, hoping it will help recruit the White Clan to their side before the big fight takes place. He flat-out rejects her offer. What good is he to the cause if he can't shift? And if he can't control his dragon how can he keep her safe?

Thanks so much to Entangled, Abigail Owen and NetGalley for this ARC to review

A satisfying ending! I <3 Airk and Angelika and the pace of the spice and development of their relationship was pretty fire. A solid conclusion to the major conflict of the series. Full of warm fuzzies :)

It was a pleasure to read this last book in this riveting series, an satisfying conclusione that left no loose end.
It's a sexy, engrossing and highly entertaining story, we get to meet characters from previous instalment and there's plenty of action.
Good world building, character and plot development.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
