‘It wasn’t important,’ I said, pulling him against my body. ‘Right away, I knew I wanted to be with you forever. Why do you think I added so many fees? I didn’t want you to go.’”
Okay, it took a really, really, realllllllllyy long time, but Giancarlo and Ash did finally grow on me. Mostly. I can’t forgive all the cheesiness from the beginning of the book, but I did actually enjoy the last 60-ish% of the book.
Let me start with what I didn’t like.
Firstly, the whole premise of the book. The fact that Gin bought Ash in a property the Vitales own, where human trafficking just casually takes place. And then Gin has the audacity to call other crime families more depraved than his family. His family who owns a place that has HUMAN TRAFFICKING. Bruh. And then threatening Ash that he was going to put him in a brothel, to then take him to that brothel and leave him on his own for a prolonged period of time not understanding what was happening. Then wonders why Ash has a panic attack.
Also the interactions between Ash and Gin in the beginning were all over the place. I get that Giancarlo is supposed to be like this crazy criminal, but I don’t know, the vibes were just super off in the beginning. And Ash would go from scared sad boy victim, to putting his foot in his mouth at the weirdest moments. He didn’t act like an abused, neglected sex slave most of the time. Also he didn’t know what a hand job was, but knew what the prostate was? Sus.
Now, things I liked.
I LOVED that Gin was the bottom, and I was absolutely feral for Ash’s dominance and almost sadism when it came to sex. His mouth was filthy, I was screaming. I thought Enzo and Tex were hot, but Ash and Gin were next-level hot. I also really liked their codependence and possessiveness and jealousy. I also really liked Ash’s relationship with Benito, and even Enzo and Tex. He just kind of fit in with the family in his own weird way.
The proposal was too cute. Actually I was obsessed with everything post-fight. Maybe not the mafia stuff, because like I said about the last book, this series is like Mafia Light®. You can’t take the action parts too seriously because they’re ridiculous, but if you can ignore all that, you can have an enjoyable time.
I didn’t like this book as much as Take Me Apart, and I have the highest expectations for Benito’s book with everything I’ve heard about it. So fingers crossed it’s not as cringey as this was for me.
