Great book until the rushed ending and not all plot points are explained.
I found the 1908 parts much more enjoyable then present day.
Some of the characters decisions didn’t match who they were in my opinion.

This book starts off with an exceptional first chapter that honestly made me nervous that the rest of the book wouldn't live up to the standard set. This fear was unfounded as this story absolutely delivered!

I am very picky when it comes to dual timelines because I find myself loving one and not caring about the other. With this book, however, I was equally invested in both timelines. The book was also wonderfully paced where it felt impossible to put down.

This is my 2nd book to read by Jennifer McMahon, and I can confidently say I am a fan!!! Can't wait to continue to read the backlist!

I loved the beginning of this book and how much mystery there was, it was truly hard to put down. But I feel like it faltered in the end, it felt rushed and mildly cheesy.. for as much time was spent enhancing the mystery, I feel the ending could have been more drawn out, and more satisfying. Overall though, it was a unique story, and a fun supernatural experience.

I expected so much more from this one. I was bored throughout most of the story and I feel like the balance between the two timelines was off, I didn't get invested in any of the storylines because of the way they were spaced out throughout the book. I also feel like the author tried to do way too many thing and I was expecting some mind blowing twist at the end but the ending turned out to be very underwhelming and basic, nothing really exciting or fun. Unfortunately, my least favorite Jennifer McMahon book I've read so far.

I devoured this whole book in one day. I love a dual-timeline story where the past and present connect, so this was right up my alley. It was delightfully creepy while examining different responses to grief and loss. McMahon is brilliant in the way she drops information, describes characters, and sets a spooky tone. This was my first book by her, but it definitely won’t be my last.

The “did that really happen?” mystery part of the story kept me invested. But I felt a few plot lines were left hanging and the last 1/4 of the book wrapped everything up a little toooooo neatly.
