I feel like this book may have had more sex than fifty shades. And that's really saying something.

Who doesn’t love a good love story with a mix of spice and thriller? There were some parts where Derek wasn’t my favorite and was a bit to macho/jerk.. but I think Ginger softens him up. Loved the thriller aspect when Ginger gets into a little bit of trouble.

Lots of spice and angst as the fmc comes to terms with allowing someone else in doesn’t mean you’ll fall apart.

Protecting What's His

When a stash of money falls into her lap, Ginger Peet doesn't think twice. She packs up her sister and relocates from Tennessee to Chicago. But temptation lurks in the big city in the form of her next-door neighbor, hunky police lieutenant Derek Tyler, who is determined to discover everything there is to know about Ginger - the good, the bad and the naughty.

Light and fun with likeable characters, a steamy romance and a relatively angst free plot.

Ginger and Derek are smokin' hot together although his overbearing alpha-male attitude, dominance and possessiveness may irritate some readers.

The secret keeping trope, which is usually a huge turn-off, actually works well here perhaps because Derek knows that something is up with Ginger from the start.

One minor issue is Ginger's TSTL moment toward the end, which is an obvious plot device to begin wrapping up the storyline. Nevertheless, it isn't too bad given that this is Bailey's debut novel.

In sum, a quick and spicy read and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Really enjoyed it, the heroine was awesome (with the exception of some shake-some-sense-into-that-fucking-dumb-ass moves), loved the little sis to death (wanna read HER story!) and the hero was... Well. Liked him, loved him sometimes, "meh'ed" him some others... But was a fine character overall.

The plot could've been a bit deeper, but I liked it anyway, so whatever.

Thank god Tessa Bailey got better with time. This was okay for a novella but the rushed nature of a novella really did a disservice to the fleshing out of characters. She was flighty and he was grumpy and somehow they fell in love(lust). Meh.

I liked it enough, but I felt like the writer was trying to emulate 50 Shades (I have been traumatized by this book I think - I compare every CR with 50 Shades and if it smells a little "Shady" it loses points) while giving us a gripping thriller. It did not work all that well.

The sex was pretty awesome, if you're into powerful, dominant males who tell you what to do and what you'll like. There wasn't much build up and that was a little disappointing. But all in all, it wasn't a complete waste.
