Enjoyable. A bit confusing on audio but kept me interested.

A novel of suspense following a former CIA operative who moves with her family to Luxembourg for her husband's job. But as she settles into her new life as a stay-at-home mom, she begins to suspect that her husband's job and their expat friends are not what they seem. Guess what? Oh, you'd have to keep reading for that! Definitely recommend!

The press for this book overrated it.

It’s probably more fair to give this three stars, but I’m kind of mad at it so I’m sticking with two. I wanted a fun, page-turning spy novel and got one that mostly annoyed me instead. The switching back and forth between time periods did not work and was just confusing. The ending was not nearly as interesting as the build up led us to believe it would be. And there were just a lot of little style things that bugged me along the way (lengthy scene descriptions cutting in between dialogue, lack of character development, unsuccessful attempts at being extra mysterious, etc.). So yeah, not a winner for me. Feels good to get these complaints off my chest. :)

This book was okay. I enjoyed it up until the last quarter, which was all too neat and a bit contrived.

Interesting premise, but too little action to keep my interested. I enjoyed the beginning and the end, but the middle part of the book was slow.

It's pretty obvious the author did his research (or lived it himself); life as an expat is incredibly well rendered here. Also recommended for anyone who enjoys a mystery or spy novel. I feel like this hit all of those notes. Also recommended for book groups. There is much here that would be rich for discussion - about life overseas, about the secrets we keep from our partners, about marriages and what makes them successful or not, and finally about self-discovery.
