This started off pretty slow, but by the end I was pretty well invested! Some interesting parallels with current events in here; truly we are all afflicted with a Marid curse. Excited for the next book to come off hold on Libby.
Audiobook read by Soneela Nankani is good!

This is an exciting sequel to The City of Brass. Often in trilogies the sequel isn't as action packed and is more of a set up to the final book - not so here! So much happens with the characters and their relationships to each other. Everyone has their own motives and you can swing between loving a character, to being wary of them, to being frustrated with them, to falling back in love with them again. This one made me cry.
What's it have? A strong female protagonist and several other strong female characters of various ages, lots of racial and cultural diversity, solid LGBTQ representation, magic, the value of consent, and doing what you think is right - even if it's hard - rather than blindly following.
I can't wait for the final book!

City of Brass's sequel was much of an improvement. While it still lacked in the romance that I think could have really added another level, she did take out a lot of the slack we associate with middles. This one held my interest almost every single chapter, and she really laid things out meticulously for quite an explosive ending. I found myself motivated to get up more than one morning to grab a tea and dive right back in first thing, which for me is the sign of a really good book. I can't wait to see how Chakraborty will wrap things up in Empire of Gold!
