A shorter book with some fun twists. One of them I definitely was expecting, the other I was not. Definitely, made me want to read the next one immediately. Fun little nods to whiskey and distilleries.

I cannot believe it’s taken me so long to read this with it always taunting me on my iPad !
What a rush!
This couple together is sinful!
Keira on her own is defiant and I love her character!
Mount is every wet dream possible! Dominate, possessive, dirty and sexy!!!
Loved this book as I’m binging this series in one day!! I

Note: This ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. The full review can be found on Dog-Eared Daydreams.

The first Meghan March book I'd ever read was Beneath This Mask in January 2015, and since then, I've read every single book she's released. She written both dark and light romances, but I'm going to be absolutely honest here--her Beneath series, which recently ended with Beneath These Truths in August of this year, remains my favorite. When I think of quintessential Meghan March, I think of her Beneath books. I'm not saying her other books weren't good reads; they were. But there was something extra-special about the series that launched her career. I wouldn't call it "perfect"--personally, there were books within the series that I liked more than others--but damn, March gave me the first set of anti-heroes I had ever fallen for. To me, an anti-hero is different from a tortured hero, and while I had come across a few of the latter, I hadn't met one of the former until this particular author made me aware there was such a thing. In between some of her Beneath releases, March has given her readers varied fictional fare, and she's done well, but I didn't realize how much I missed her anti-heroes until she introduced me to one mysterious man named Mount Lachlan in the final Beneath book. And Mount is the anti-hero that makes every other one that came before him seem like Prince Charming. He is the anti-hero personified.

At the request of the author for those who've read the book and are posting reviews, I'm going to keep this as spoiler-free as possible. All I can give you in terms of details is what's already been mentioned in the official synopsis for Ruthless King. Mount Lachlan is a man that is both feared and revered. He's earned the ire and respect of the people of New Orleans and there is nothing that goes on within his city that he isn't aware of. Keira Kilgore is a woman at the helm of her family-owned distillery, one that's four generations in. She owes him five hundred thousand dollars and the time has come for Mount to call in that debt--one that Keira cannot afford to pay back. Luckily for her, Mount accepts payment in kind...the kind that goes by the name of Keira Kilgore. Aaand that's all your getting from me. If you're a fan slash reader of Meghan March's, she's taken things to a far dirtier and darker level, and we get to reap all the fabulously filthy rewards. If you've never read her books (WTF?!), this is a good a place to start as the Beneath series (and that's saying something). This is the first in the Mount trilogy, and yes, I does end in an evil cliffhanger. However, the second and third novels will be released in November and December, respectively, so the wait in between each one won't be too torturous (I hope!). Five-plus stars go to Ruthless King.

✨ Read for the 2018 Madcap MacHalo Fantabulous Bookish Challenge Extravaganza (MMFBCE™) Challenge over at the MacHalos - 3. Alpha & Beta

1.5 Stars

I picked this for the Alpha & Beta category. I was wrong. It belongs to the Asshole & Whinnying Stupidity category. Unfortunately we didn't have one of those in the challenge.

He was supposed to be a Ruthless Asshole.
↪ He was a cardboard that turned into a real asshole boy. The uncooked noodles in my pantry have done a better job in being an asshole than he did. Plus I see them in the pantry I never visit, way more than I saw him in this book.

She was supposed to be the smart, brave fighter of a woman.
↪ She was naive, stupid and whiny beyond belief! Naive isn't bad but there is such a thing as "too much". After the first chapter I was wishing hard upon a star for Pinocchio Mount to kill her already. No such luck.

I hated that we were promised fucking Ruthless and we got nothing. I hated even more that we were promised smart and we got whiny and stupid. But what pushed my hate into the Troposphere was that whiny & stupid was 99% of the book. To add insult to injury: the cliffhanger/plot twist (axaxaxa what plot?!). I saw it coming after the first page.

Sexy, suspenseful and captivating. I was completely drawn in by this story. I was drawn in by the dark aspects, by the sexy elements, by even a few moments that made me swoon. The characters were so complex and well developed. The storyline was different. I cannot wait for the next story in the series. I am so dying to read more.

This is definitely the start to a new amazing series. Meghan never fails to amaze me with her work and this book was no different. No plot descriptions because you definitely need to read it for yourself.

Gosh, it was not my first book that I read in one day, but this book....

I didn't realize when I finish reading it. I just turn a page expecting to see the next one, but on the following page- there was nothing. No words no nothing. So I realized that I just read the book in one turn. And I am so happy about it, because the book was worth it - every single page.

But the bad news is that I have the second and third book, but have to go to bed and sleep.

But I am that close to read only the first chapter of the second book.

Just the first chapter.

Only one chaper.

This series has been on my kindle for months. I'm not sure why I waited to read it because it was OUTSTANDING. This book is full of mind games and suspense galore. My mind keeps telling me Mount is bad but my heart is saying there has to be something redeemable. Oh how I love an anti-hero. On to the next book. I guess we will see.
