So boring. I listened to this audiobook on a 4 hour drive and subsequently forgot I needed to finish it until I was reminded by my GR page.
I haven't really enjoyed any of Mary Kubica's books and yet I continue to read them. They're all the same - in Chicago, dual voice, nothing exciting. This one especially was incredibly slow with too many transparent attempts at getting the reader to believe something that was clearly not true.

This was a fun thriller, even if a bit long in the set-up. I love Mary Kubica’s twists so I knew one was coming, but it was such a well-done slow development that I didn’t figure it out until it was on the pages in front of me.
Moderate: Child death, Blood, Grief, and Stalking

Not her best story but a decent one. I thought it was kinda slow and the nuggets for the reveal took forever to get there. I also fast forwarded through a few parts, particularly full chapters when the only point was to show that Quinn was paranoid. Alex was a far better character than Quinn, even if they both made God awful decisions. The Other Mrs, She's Not Sorry and definitely Local Woman Missing were all much better stories imo.

Very meh. The book is written as two different storylines, from two different characters’ perspectives. The only problem is, the writer doesn’t bother to change the voices in the least, at any point in the book. It’s the same voice throughout the entire novel, even when one character goes on and on describing how unintelligent they believe themselves to be in one paragraph, only to use giant, unnecessary vocabulary in the next that I literally had to Google because I had no idea what some of the words meant. I was an English major in college by the way. Words are my thing. I’m just saying, you don’t need to use a thesaurus to write a good story.
As for the story, it was just interesting enough to keep me reading. I didn’t expect the twist and there were definitely some exciting parts. But overall not my favorite. Mary Kubica’s Local Woman Missing was definitely better.

Good solid read. I enjoyed listening to this though I did find the characters annoying at times. It could be their ages. I would recommend to fans of Shari Lapena and BA Paris.

I totally thought I'd figured out the ending and I was pretty damn wrong.

Boring as fuuuuuuuuuuuck. Not one of these characters is remotely interesting and nothing happens until the final few pages.
Update 9/7/2021: it hasn't even been a month and I have zero memory of this place. Clearly a memorable read lmao
