Action, adventure and magic

We follow Lyra, a human in a magical world in which supernaturals have infected, or gifted, depending on your perspective, humans with magic to even the playing field and reduce persecution as a result of discrimination. It is questionable how successful this strategy was when extremists employ anti-magic devices designed to, essentially, kill of magical beings in an effort to get their hands on an all powerful artefact.
Lyra is a young police-like figure in the community and, although she is suspended for misconduct nothing will stop her from protecting her family.
I liked the pace and the plot. There are hints of romance to come but no sparks for me just yet. Lots of action and a snarky dragon partner to keep things interesting.

good read.

I like a heroine that doesn’t take herself too seriously and makes do with what she has. That is what you get here. I look forward to reading the next one

This book was delightful, I loved the characters, the story is really good and I enjoyed the setting, too. It’s a really good first book in a series and I can’t wait to start the next one.

Love this first book in this urban fantasy series

I really enjoyed this urban fantasy novel, the interesting new world of magic, wonderful characters and a kickass heroine, what's not to like.

Engaging, enjoyable, and quick read

Always loved stories with dragons, vampires, and magic.
Love that this is a combination of the real world with fiction interwoven.
Lyra is a relatable and down to earth character, and not everything goes her way but she does not let obstacles stand in her way or prevent her from her primary duty of “protect” and “serve”.
It is nice and refreshing to read a novel where the main female character can feel attraction but does not need a man or sexual encounters to motivate her or empower her.
