I love the illustrations and the way that the color in the knitting pops off the page.

This book really reminded me of the communal nature of knitting. I immediately wanted to curl up with my eights and the most colorful ball of yarn I could find! Definitely a knit-tastic read!

It was cute. I didn't really get the archduke part of it.

Annabell finds a magic box of yarn of every color that she uses to brighten up her dull little town. This is a very simple story about knitting but is filled with jealousy, intrigue, archdukes, family curses, and happiness. A fun story that is quick to read.

Read it many moons ago but I've recently field tested this book at a few preschools where I do outreach. I cannot explain the title's powers. It shouldn't work. The story is a bit too long for these beautiful, wild child groups. But the minute I start reading....rapt attention. Maybe it's my love for the dynamic Klassen/Barnett duo, maybe it's the cozy, hazy rainbow colors, maybe it's just magic. But good golly molly this book is the mic drop of my snow themed storytimes.
