This is a family/courtroom story. It’s very slow until about 80%. The story overall was interesting, just didn’t quite make it for me.

Oh my goodness. Literally could NOT put this book down!!! It’s so good...with tons of twists and the ending is so unexpected. You just have to read it, I don’t want to give anything away!

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I loved it. The two points of view kept the story moving along with a ton of cliffhangers. I was shocked with the ending and loved how it was developed.

A fast paced quick read with some courtroom and family drama and a surprise ending. I thought I had it figured out about 100 pages in but I was wrong! A good poolside read.

I half enjoyed this book. Some of the writing was done well. It was suspenseful in places and succeeded in drawing me in, desperate to know what was coming next. Then the ending happened. No. Just no. I haven’t been so disappointed in the ending of a book in a long time but this was just completely unbelievable. Also, most of the character conversations were obnoxiously ridiculous. Not the worst I’ve read and far from the best.

Just a disclaimer.....I never summarize a book and tell you the story line. I'm not into writing book reports, so you're not going to get spoilers here. I always try to review by giving you my opinion of the book in general. What I liked and disliked about the book, without giving it away.

Where to start....I've read a few other Scottoline books before this one, and so far, this one has been my favorite. I've enjoyed the others, but I really enjoyed the way this book was written.

The characters were well developed leaving a hint of wanting to dig deeper into what was going through their heads. I really enjoyed the format of this book. It gave different perspectives of the same scenes but was written in a way where it was piecing a puzzle together in different spots. So it wasn't like Joe was thinking and interpreting scene A this way, and then giving Jane's perspective of the same scene right afterwords. It was woven really well to piece things together nicely, in a way that flowed, yet revealed a little more of the story. It kept me reading and I could appreciate how the author did this.

The ending....With any good book, it can lead you down the rabbit hole. As a matter of fact, I get disappointed if I'm just meandering down it and not racing down it full speed. This book had a nice rabbit hole that I was running towards.....but....I've gotten where I get upset with an abrupt ending. This book could have gone in sooooo many different directions with the ending. I feel like it was just tied up with a neat little bow at the end to wrap it up and get it printed. I wish it would have given me more. I understand it was a stand alone book, but man, this could have been made into a great series, or at least a second book to follow.

Overall, a good read!

Quite the suspenseful story! Anna’s family seems to be ripped apart after she arrives (having been taken from her mother when she was a baby). She accuses her step father of sexually assaulting her...and the story is told with flashbacks up to the present - from both the mother and father’s sides. It was a good read - it just felt long in some parts. The ending is riveting, however, I would not have seen that coming!
