I struggled to get through this book a few different times but this time I found it a breeze to read and finished it in a day and a half. Over all a good book

This book was a chance find, but the premise of a girl who loves her family and her faith and herself having to change parts of her very self is one that resonates. It is mostly filled with light-hearted romantic comedy but there are many poignant moments that explore the intersection between faith and queer identity. If anyone is looking for a story that reflects the idea that being Christian and being queer does not have to be mutually exclusive, then this is a great read.

While the premise of this book is at first glance (or should I say read) believable, the execution leaves something to be desired. It's ridiculous. Jo outs herself to George one of the first times they meet. Yet, she develops a relationship with Mary Carlson and won't reveal her secret? It's foolish. This book is a waste of time.

It's really a 2.5 but I couldn't bring myself to give it 3 stars... There were elements I really liked but I was way too annoyed with a lot of the characters -especially the main character - to be able to say I liked it...
I really enjoyed the friend group in this, they were fun even if a bit one-dimensional at times. Elizabeth was definitely the best character in the whole book, aside from B.T.B. I also liked the way B.T.B was part of the story, his differences were mentioned but they were his defining characteristic.
The things I didn't like...This book is the novel equivalent of "this could have been an e-mail", it was just way to long and the plot dragged on because Joanna, the main character, kept making the same stupid decision again and again. When it finally bit her in the butt I couldn't feel sorry for because it all could have been easily avoided if she had communicated/been honest with Mary Carlson.
There is so much more that rubbed me the wrong way, like the hypocritical father, the awful grandmother (and the fact that everyone just accepted her homophobia because "that's just the way she is ") but overall it was a quick, semi-enjoyable read.

Not amazingly written, but the plot and story was wonderful and was a book I read so quickly just to see what would happen
