This is the third in the Rizzoli and Isles series. I didn't find it as gripping as the first two in the series, mainly because it lacked a sense of urgency. However, Gerritsen manages to create a suspenseful climax with the murderer after one of the main characters (even though this happens in virtually every thriller!).

I was pleased to see that Dr. Maura Isles was the main character, as she had been mostly missing throughout the first two books. Her point of view was fresh and interesting in contrast to that of Rizzoli (though we are still treated to her p.o.v. as well). My only pet peeve with Isles is that she was far too involved in the policing side of the case - as an ME, I find it hard to believe that she would be part of questioning the nuns, etc. This does seem to be popular in books and movies of this nature though, with Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta and Kathy Reichs' Temperance Brennan doing much of the same.

I am very interested to read the next in the series, mostly because I can't wait to see what happens with Rizzoli. Her secondary storyline was interesting and her feelings towards what happened were appropriate considering how invested she is in her career. I can't wait to see where Gerritsen takes her, and to see more of the blossoming friendship between Rizzoli and Isles.

It didn't blow my mind like the first and second one, but it still is a perfect thriller that works like a clock. I liked the subtle incorporation of Maura Isles as an important character of the story arch. I prefer her to some of the policemen around Rizzoli.
I like the way Gerritsen is able to vow different story lines into a complete arch that makese sense even if the reader isn't able to see it coming.
I will continue to read this series and try to get how Gerritsen builds each and one of her stories, because she is a master clockwork maker.

I must admit to have been very relieved that the cliff-hanger of book 2 wasn't followed up on in this book and that it was a detour.
Religion, shady dealings in foreign countries, love interests coming back to haunt the protagonists - finally Isles had more of a role.

This was a rather interesting and well written book. I enjoyed the intrigue and events that played out, even if I was able to peg the bad person the moment we meet them. Although this is a 3rd book I actual haven't read any of the others and can say that it didn't feel like a series book and could be read outta order the only thing that I guess would play a bit odd outta order would be the life events in the stories eg two characters meeting or backstories. Otherwise this felt like a standalone book.

BOOK COVER: 3
RATING: Adult
OVERAL: I don't really have huge feelings for this book. It was enjoyable and all but it didn't fully leave me with any lasting feeling.
FAVE CHARACTER: Jane Rizzoli I generally enjoyed her part in the story
WOULD I READ MORE FROM THIS AUTHOR: Yes I would read more from this author, although it didn't leave me with a lot of feelings after it was still an enjoyable read and id like to read more about these characters.
RECOMMEND: People who enjoy crime and mystery books with strong women influence in it
