I enjoyed the characters in this book (for the most part) as well as Ifemelu’s funny and potent commentary on race and class in society. I just found myself bored throughout most of the story, and there were a lot of side plots and characters that didn’t add much to the narrative imo.

Very beautifully written, only the ending was a bit unsatisfying. I just expected more an explosion, a bit more into how it began again for Obinze and Ifemelu. But I give it five stars anyways, for the journey.

i really really liked this one!! again, the way that adichie writes about characters is so real and so raw and the experience of race in predominantly white institutions is something that was so honest and so real and so necessary!! this book made me smile and made my heart ache when necessary and reminded me how much i love love (sidenote: the tenderness with which such impassioned emotion is spoken about is both so gentle and so moving that i genuinely had to take a second)
