I'm not a very religious person, so there was some poems that didn't really get to me. She talks about the beauty in love (romantic and familial), growing up, pain, and peace. Standout poems for me were: On the Pulse of the Morning, Continue (her poem dedicated to Oprah), When Great Trees Fall, In and out of Time

All poetry is meant to be read out loud, but Angelou's especially. These poems are straightforward, joyous, and full of power. Most were written for a specific occasion which is interesting. "Prayer" is probably my favorite of this collection.
