The Soldier's Scoundrel by Cat Sebastian

The old adage of not judging a book by its cover extremely applies here. Frankly, it needs to be redesigned. I mean, if you're looking for sex scenes, you will find them here, but they aren't the main feature. It's a love story where sex came before love chronologically. The characters have genuine character growth and it's just generally well written and researched. There's mystery and murder and a lot of talk about class differences. I don't know what the author's take on socioeconomic equality is but I appreciate Jack's resentment toward the gentry. I only wish there were less compromises about that, but I'm a bitter uncompromising anarchist.

Eh. There were certain scenes and lines that I enjoyed in this book but overall I was kind of bored. The characters were fine, the relationship was fine, the mystery plot was fine. But that's it. Only fine. So, I didn't hate it but I also didn't feel any real emotion towards it either.

Extremely well-written. Points off only because I wish the characters were more vocal about their love for each other after exchanging “I love you”s, and I wish there was a longer build up to a HEA after they finally committed to each other.

2018 is blessing me with gay historical romance! First Gentleman's Guide, and now this. Can't wait to continue with this series! Also, the audiobook narrator did an amazing job. Jack and Oliver sounded like the completely different people they were.

I'm reading all of this authors stuff I guess.

I liked this less than the other ones I've read, but I still really liked it! I'm giving it a three still but it means I kinda wanna change my other ratings up, yk? Anyway I just think she's so good at characters!!!!!! And fun romps of a regency style thing here.

I wish this cover was just blank. This embarrasses me every time. IM A PRUDE
