One word to describe this book is: unnecessary.
This is Bella Swan's favorite book... should have seen the disappointment coming.

Is this the most toxic love story ever written in classics? Yes it is. Are all the characters absolutely awful? Yes, again. But the plot, the story, the angst, the best 18 century tea, the dramatics, the symbolism, the beautiful quotes and writing, made it all worth it. Bittersweet endings for the win

This book is so many things I can't even begin to place it.

I do feel, however, that I did not do this book the justice it deserved. It took me sooo long to read, and I feel like I missed a lot of critical information at times, but when I sat down at read it, I devoured the story.

But I do think the writing is absolutely one of the most beautiful things I have ever read. Emily truly transported me into a world of drama, abuse, love, etc. And I was not too fond of any of the characters. I tried so hard, but I don't think any of the characters were meant to appeal to the readers.

And even though there is a love story written between these pages, it is one that should not be romanticized, for it symbolizes such a toxic representation of love and how the line between love and hate are forever toed.

I really liked it, but I think I'm gonna stick with more beginner classics for a bit. (But one day I will definitely reread this to annotate!!)
