So after my re-read I try to think more of themes and stuff while reading a book. I like how the Immortal Beloved series is about choice. Picking right from wrong and good from evil. There is never only good and never only evil. The biggest part is the gray part or the shadow part or whatever you want to call it. And maybe the most beautiful part is that Nasty admits it's not only for immortals but also for normal people. We all make bad choices and we all agree that life sometimes isn't fair, we just have to learn to cope with it and pick the right decision from the wrong one.

~

Part 2 of the Immortal Beloved series was like an eyeopener about Nastasya. To actually get to know her better. I mean we are with so many people on this world and we all have our different opinions or ways to enjoy our life. So has she and I sometimes wondered why she didn't dare or just didn't do some things.
I mean we saw her struggle with Old Mac and Dray and that didn't work out and I just wanted it for her so badly because she thought she was evil. If you realise al that, and the world looks like it turns it's back on you it's not weird that she wants to be with Incy again.
Maybe a bit because she was afraid of him but I think Incy is the best actor in the world. He looked like he cared about her (yes her powers) and she hated working that hard at River's so she just went back to her luxery living. Not a bad thing only bad friends.

I was happy for Nasty when she realised that the people at River's really were her friends. She knew more about them and they really cared about her. More than Incy, Boz and Katy who she spend something like ninety years with. (Boz at least). However I think that if I were Nastasya I would also been swept up by Incy, his charmes and everything. They were together for more than a century. You couldn't blame her. She just wanted to hold on tpo much on a friendship that wasn't actually excisting.

It was a great 'construction' (I don't know the right word) of the story. How everything went wrong and Incy came and that she realized that she wanted to be back at River's but she just didn't go and my my my that they saved her at that old warehouse. I was really waiting for it or not waiting, because I doubted it would happen, I was really hoping for it. I was happy that Reyn was there. Not just because of the romance but it showed Nasty that apart from River and the teachers there were other people that cared about her and wanted to save her. Same with Brynne coming in after a period she was back at her real new home.

I'm looking forward to Eternally Yours!

I don't know exactly why I like Nastasya so much, as she is incredibly flawed, but I do. Perhaps it's because she's honest about her faults. Or, perhaps, it's because she's just the right amount of snarky. As far as this installment of the series is concerned, I felt it was good but probably my least favorite out of the bunch.

This book is awesome! Better than the first, I loved all the developing relationships particularly regarding Incur (stupid name).

It seems like it has been forever since I've read Immortal Beloved, the predecessor of this book. I needed a refresher course - I had to think really hard and try to remember the cast and the story line of the series. I can only remember loving Immortal Beloved. Sadly, Darkness Falls wasn't quite successful in conjuring up the same enthusiasm.

Firstly, I don't remember being this annoyed with Nastasya. Was she really this...well, shallow? I just can't reconcile the personality of a person who'd been around more four hundred some odd years to this person who had the mind set of a seventeen year old. She'd had lovers - many in her lifetime and yet the way she acted around Reyn didn't really show any maturity on her part. I applaud the author for giving her some genuine voice characteristic of a teen but you'd think Nas would've shown a bit more of her immortal age. And while her innermost thoughts were entertaining at best, I also had some moments when I had to say, are you for real?!

The magick/wizardry/witchcraft in this book is still signature Cate Tiernan. Well-evolved and ingenious. This novel moved a bit slow for me. It's hard to continue on when I couldn't care less what happens next in the story. I wanted to give up but Reyn kept pulling me in - even if he was less than visible in this book. I think I could count in one hand how many times he was involved in the story.

I finally got what River's Edge was. It's a rehab for dark magicians wanting to change their old ways by going back to basics. The therapy is of course, unconventional but it was fun to see how Nas slowly saw the errors of her ways. She's not fully changed but she's getting there. I'm also glad that she's finally realizing she had to face this thing with Reyn and that she's hopefully rid of Ince for real. *crosses fingers*

Overall, I read this book to pass the time. I liked it enough but wasn't overly enthusiastic about it. I hope the next one will be better.

Where to start with this series. First of all it takes awhile to get into. The main character, Nastasya, is easy to hate. She’s almost too easy to hate. But with her inner dialogue it is easy to see why she makes the life choices she makes even when they’re blinding mistakes, and as the reader you are yelling at the book “NO. NO DON’T DO IT.”

What? You don’t yell at your books?

Darkness Falls is the second book in the Immortal Beloved series. You could easily read this without the first book, Immortal Beloved, but I wouldn’t recommend it. There is too much back story in book one that is carried into book two. Plus, with reading the first one, you can see how much Nastasya has grown by the end of the second one. You may even like her by the end of the second one.

Nastasya doesn’t do feelings well. She feels like a failure, and she can’t see why people where she lives like her, or even worse (in her mind) defend her. I relate to that. I don’t do feelings well myself. I like to act like I handle them well, but I don’t. So reading her emotions, or lack of emotions on situations I could easily relate to. And then she would do something stupid that would lead me to yell at the book again.

Nastasya will easily not be readers YA female character of the year. She’s a bitch, moody, often cranky, she makes openly bad choices that she knows are bad choices and still does them anyway. But by the end of the book she slowly turns into a more likable character. The same occurs in the first book, but the change is more noticeable in this book. Which I find to be a good thing. Plus Tiernan continues to be a fabulous writer.

As we know, Nastasya has lived for 400 hundred years, yet her life never seems to get any easier. In Immortal Beloved we see her leave everything behind to find meaning at River's Edge, a safe haven for wayward immortals. While at River's Edge she learned to embrace new things and began to respect life despite some drama involving Reyn, and another immortal who wanted her dead. And once a few things have been dealt with it seems like she is getting back on track with her life. However, just as Nastasya is getting comfortable, with somethings, she is forced to leave River's Edge because of her family's ties to dark magic, which she thinks will be her own downfall. Scared she will succumb to the dark Nastasya, believe it or not, soon falls back into her old ways when she is reacquainted with old friends and we learn not everyone is as friendly as they are making out.

I really enjoyed this book, more than Immortal Beloved. We see Nastasya grow as a character and the flashbacks help us to understand her and her life all the better. We also get introduced to River's past which is intriguing and not as good as one may think. I often find in difficult in books when we are transported back in time via flashbacks but not with Tiernan's writing, she makes the past as real and believable as the present. The flashbacks only add to this story giving it real depth.

I love the tangled web that is Nastasya and Reyn's relationship. They have all ready been through so much and I often find myself sat on the fence as to what I want from their relationship. But as Nastasya starts to see her past through different eyes so do we and half way through this story I was routing for them to be together.

Tiernan's writing is captivating and her characters endearing. She knows how to create a world a reader can get lost in, without your knowing, and I can't wait to get lost in books three!

I feel the need to change my rating of the first book in this series. This book dragged on with too many flashbacks and protagonist meltdowns. It got more interesting about halfway through but then became pretty melodramatic and heavy handed.
I'm disgusted by Nastasya's relationship with Reyne. I can get behind forgiving the man who helped murder your family and attempted to rape you, but he doesn't do nearly enough to redeem himself. He doesn't even seem to show much remorse. He just has an attitude of- well, it happened a long time ago. That doesn't nearly cut it. They don't even have any chemistry. They are both attracted to each other's looks and familiar histories... okay. I felt more positively towards Incy if I'm being honest.
I almost stopped reading this book multiple times and I wish I would have. Definitely not reading the last book.

After all this time, I finally got the read the next book in this series. I remember loving the first book very much, so I really wanted to read the sequel. It didn't disappoint me, though it might have been a little less good than Immortal Beloved. But Nastasya was still a very hilarious narrator and she made the book really funny at some points.
