It's so refreshing to find a story where vamps don't sparkle. Seriously, I've tried to avoid them since those popular movies a few years back. What was it Twilight? I think so. Now hungry, blood thirsty vampires I can get behind. This is a novella, followed by 2 very shorts, but I'd rather read this than some mainstream crap anyday

They just wanted to cook meth in peace, but they found starving, isolated vampires instead 😔

This was great! I loved the concept of the vampires, the way things played out, and the ending. Such a good novella.

The most satisfying vampire story I’ve read in years.

This was a fun, fast paced read. I live less than an hour's drive from West Virginia so the setting and the characters really resonated with me. Keene's take on the vampire mythos is great and I'd totally read more.

I stumbled upon this book looking for new horror novels to read that was something different. This was my first book by Brian Keene and it definitely won’t be my last. I loved that it kind of felt like a Creepypasta or Reddit No Sleep story. This was exactly what I needed. It wasn’t scary but creepy and made me think about things that could be put there. Also being a small town southern girl it had a lot of elements that reminded me of the place I grew up. A place where most people are poor and those desperate turn to drugs and illegal activities to make money and survive. Can’t wait to read more from Keene.

A fast-paced, no-nonsense page turner. Goes from dour rural elegy to a blood-soaked vampire hoedown in no time whatsoever. The trials and tribulations of working class West Virginia collide head on with vicious, feral vampires and there's no breathing room whatsoever. Don't get too attached to any one particular character. Just enjoy this head-ripping, bloodsucking, ankle-biting blast of a novella while it lasts.
