Struggled to keep momentum and purpose in the narrative.

Not feeling it and the writing is lyrical, which isn't something I generally enjoy. Plus, the multiple times at the same time is confusing me...

i am really torn about this one! i liked getting lavinia's perspective on the events of the aeneid and i especially loved her conversations with virgil, but i was never really eager to get back to reading after putting the book down. i think the first third of the novel was the strongest--after that it semi-replicates the aeneid, which i have never been super fond of (plot-wise) despite loving virgil, and the story became quite bland and tell-not-show near the end after her marriage and aeneas' death. it has been a WHILE since i read the aeneid, either in latin or in english, and i think that was actually the best possible setup for this because i had enough familiarity to not be confused but enough distance to not be outright bored.
