This was a reread for me but oh experiencing it with Angela Dawes narration felt as though I was on an entirely new journey all together.
The emotions and friendships, the characters and humour. All there and all absolutely adorable.
I’m constantly blown away by the beauty in Jae’s writing and the amount of emotion she can pull from her characters and from myself.
I absolutely adore this book and recommend reading it in all of the formats.

This book was not for me, but I need to support this book by giving 5 stars so that the right person does read it. Love a late blooming wlw story.

The cover is TERRIBLE, but the book is wonderfully heartwarming. It is cute, authentic emotions and there are few things more wonderful than a butch woman.

The romance genre is comfort food. I needed this because I had been reading a lot of books that needed intellectual engagement and this was just tropey feel-good syrup but very wholesome -managing to add some approval of a trans best friend and a single-mother sister as well as people who live their humble lives in ordinary jobs and struggle to pay the rent. One of the romantic leads was even fat and introverted.

Some stereotypes got broken but there was also some odd stuff like one or the other character "hummed" presumably as a signifier of lust but ir was hard for me to get a mental image for that which wasn't ridiculous. That and I get very bored with sex scenes or drawn out kissing scenes for that matter. I tend to think it's fun enough if it's happening to you but who swirled their tongue around the others;' nipple...I find that awkward to read and not as delightful as the emotional side of it. Each to their own though and I think most readers of romance like than more than I do. I also am not thrilled when characters go from "I have just discovered surprising love" to moving in together and starting a family and you think "hey it'sonly been 300 pages, slow down girls" especially because this persistant trope of lesbian insta-love is one that people follow in real life and 99.9% of the time it ends in tears. I once had a woman on a first date try to discuss marriage with me before we'd even ordered coffee...needless to say there was no second date. But I am grumpy and hard to please and the romance genre is actually mostly aimed at people who are very different from me.

There were a lot of food mentions and descriptions and some of them were even vegitarian (now I want artichoke and spinach pizza). Joking aside I think one thing I really read romance novels for is the gluttony that goes with the lust. Coffee, icecream, pasta.....whatever it is. Feed each other. When I am attracted to someone I want to share food or drink with her or cook for her or eat what she cooks...etc. It's very much part of the experience of romance/comfort for me and possibly for a lot of people. There were also pets, small kids (and not too badly written) and a loveable bunch of family (I am including Heather as family).

I want Heather to find love though. I will check if Jae has written that because I want to read it.

Surprisingly enjoyable and sweet story (despite the Wattpad-esque cover). I liked that the story was rather simple and drama-free. Don't get me wrong; I love secrets, miscommunications, and lies as much as the next romance reader, but this was a nice break from all that. Also cool to see a f/f pairing in which one person is an older, curvy butch lesbian instead of the usual 2 femmes or a skinny/fit masc. My main complaint is the constant unnecessary Portland references, most of which were kind of shallow (there's like at least half a dozen references to the weather).
