I have mixed feelings. The last third threw me off a bit.

One thing though, I do love the close relationship Dani has with her brother Sage.

I also adored Lachlan's letters. His words tugged my heart. đź’š

It’s hard not to like Dani with Lachlan, while also thinking it’s weird. They get together while she’s 18 but still in high school. I remember when I turned 18 it didn’t really feel different from 17, and he’s 29, and her guidance counselor. I get why Dani was attracted to him because she went through an awful experience that took away some of her innocence and probably made her not relate as much to people her age. Lachlan on the other hand could have done more to not fall for his student. I think the ending made it a little less weird, but for the first 300 pages of the book part of me was hoping it would go a different direction(even though it was pretty obvious it wouldn’t).
There were some typos in at least my copy of the book.

This book goes through a lot of complex, heavy, and beautiful emotion. It was entertaining and filled with lots of different kinds of love that left me smiling. I loved Dani and Ansel’s friendship.

While I loved the theme and the thrill, I don’t think that the ending fit Dani. The author doesn’t go into detail why she was feeling pulled to go start a farm and we never really see her interest in marketing or organic foods. Like she can’t even cook, why would she be interested in organic food vs regular produce? I think that she should’ve ended up in Paris with Ansel doing something that she’d discovered that she loved. I understand that characters sometimes travel down paths that the author had no intention of allowing them to travel but 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s not my story and they’re not my characters but I still wish they had chosen differently. Part of growth is discovering your likes and dislikes and the “marketing” seemed like a cop-out.

Overall it was still an enjoyable story and I was happy that Dani and Lachlan were happy in the end. I’ll probably still be thinking about this book for a while, though it will be about my disappointment with the ending.

I am not one for age gap romances, I actively avoid them. Buuuuut, I enjoyed the confidence and resurrection of wildflowers by Micalea Smeltzer a lot so I added this to my TBR. I was looking for a quick read (not realizing just *how long* this book was) and read it on kindle unlimited. Despite the length, I actually got through it very quickly. This book does cover the very difficult topic of school shootings. The female main character, Dani, is a survivor of a school shooting where she, unfortunately, lost her mother who was the school nurse. The book follows her journey through grief and falling in love in the process.

This was such a good, emotional and hopeful story. The trauma is explored in such a real and raw way and Dani’s journey felt so honest.

I’m very happy that despite this having a high school setting it didn’t fall into any of the annoying high school tropes of bullies and friend drama and lots of parties.

This is another story that will just stick with me for a long time and I’ll keep coming back to relive this beautiful relationship that while conflicting was so amazing and soul consuming.
