This book had so much potential, but it didn't work out for me. I think it was way, way too long. Usually in a thriller I think there isn't enough character development, but here there was the opposite problem. We kept hearing about the characters' pasts, and problems, and fears, and plans for the future, and I just didn't care. I needed more action and less talking. I had to set this book down around the 30% mark because of life stuff, and completely forgot to pick it back up for more than a week. That was how not thrilling it was.

It was going so good - up until 40% in. And I was out. I did not care for the extreme game show aspect of the plot.

i haven't read a good thriller in so long. this was exactly what i needed to get me out of a slump. i saw someone raving about this online and almost immediately started reading after i heard the premise. i love the cruise setting mixed with a lord of the flies type plot. it was the perfect fusion of a survival thriller and mystery. and i truly never knew what was going to come next. there were twists left and right and i am OBSESSED with the ending. felt very much like a final destination/escape room ending. i was very much a fan of the way caroline's character developed toward the end with literally everyone GASLIGHTING HER. also francine i love you girl, even despite that twist! i would have loved the chapters to be titled like 'day 14' or something like that though, as i was genuinely losing track.

Honestly a great read. It's super fast pace and the chapters are extremely short.
I really enjoyed the ending, although it did feel a little rushed.

Wasn't a fan of all the inner diaglogue about the sister and dad. Honestly could've done without that completely.

But whether you like the ending or not, it's a very unique book that you will think about for months and likely never forget... which always makes a book worth reading

4.5 ⭐️ Intrigued from chapter 1. One of those books that you need to find out what happened and then you might be happy or upset when you find out
