Sayre does it again with a great poem mixed with nature photographs.
I did add an extra bloom in the refrain so we could have an interactive moment at storytime. We would say, "Bloom, bloom, boom!" with one hand, two hand, and clap. It was so much fun!

2019 storytime theme: grass / flowers / bugs
2022 storytime theme: PreK Planters Flowers
This year we spread our arms out in large circle for bloom, then clapped together for boom. I love sharing this one and having this interaction. I tell the audience that I they need to be my second arm so I can hold the book.

I am a big fan of April Pulley Sayre, and I get excited every time I see she has a new book out. Her poetry is easy to read and easy for little listeners to pick up on the big, solid rhymes. Her photography is beautifully framed; she always seems to capture the perfect shot. Always a pleasure to read!

I loved the large, clear photos of nature! I'm often looking for books with photographs for storytimes to expose kids to different visual styles. Plus, photo images can be especially effective for kids with certain developmental needs. As nonfiction, it doesn't give nearly enough info. The text is a bit lackluster but still workable for a read aloud, especially if you have kids yell the "boom!" Unfortunately, it did surprise me with a picture of a lizard, my greatest fear.

This is larger than a typical picture book and great for story time. I love the drama of saying "blooooooom..." slowly leading into the next page and then flipping the page and having the families say "BOOM!" (that's not exactly how it's written, but that's how I did it). Everyone was engaged, even the babies.

Also, it's always nice to use non-fiction (or non-fiction-ish) books in story time for the opportunity to talk about real vs pretend. The photography in this is stunning, as with some of Sayre's other picture books ([b:Raindrops Roll|22540206|Raindrops Roll|April Pulley Sayre|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1403391082s/22540206.jpg|41991520] is another good one).

The best evidence that a book's a hit is when multiple people want to check it out after story time and this one almost caused a fight between two preschoolers. Luckily, one was convinced to take [b:Fantastic Flowers|31389271|Fantastic Flowers|Susan Stockdale|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1480688599s/31389271.jpg|52078647] instead.

I used this in my green/growing storytime this week--what a fun theme! This book was a hit. With the realistic pictures and the information in the back, it's a beautiful edition. It kept a rhythm too, so that was fun with my bigger kids who wanted to help participate. Very nice.

For: spring/flower/growing storytimes; readers looking for a book with lots of gorgeous pictures.

Possible red flags: some readers may find repetitive or too long.
