I dont have enough words. This is probably the best book I have ever read. Everything is intertwined, yet so individual and unique.

An invitation to seeking and adventure, to love and to opening every door.

Erin Morgenstern is a phenomenal wordsmith who weaves page after page of magic. The Starless Sea is a novel story for book lovers, a deconstruction of book and story that pays homage to Lewis Carroll, C. S. Lewis, Neil Gaiman, Lev Grossman, and countless others. It's a captivating journey, to be sure. Its weakness lies is in the architecture. The plot collapses in on itself. But what's incredible is that the story maintains a metaview that reflects the collapse of the plot. It's wonderful writing that reminds me of The Neverending Story.

I loved The Night Circus and really wanted to love this one as well, but it just wasn’t for me.
The first like 150 pages I was really into it and thought it was so fun but then it went on for so long and then when alllllll the stories got all mixed up and things were happening but then also not actually and I just felt like 😵‍💫 and maybe it’s just cos I don’t read much fantasy? Maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood? I don’t know, did you read it? Thoughts?

2nd read 9/27/24: listened to the audio book this time and it's just so lovely. I don't know how best to convince you you should read this book, in part because it's hard to capture what this story is. Several small stories within the larger storyline with the protagonists, an ending that really goes down the rabbit hole the last 25%, and some achingly beautiful prose.

I really liked the start of this book, and thought it was going to be a 5-star read. However by about page 200 I started to feel that the plot was incredibly slow, if not nonexistent. I'd like to finish it because I love the concept but decided to turn my attention to books I was more excited to read.
